Mr Rubio, spare us the pathetic excuses. Nobody is fooled by this bureaucratic nonsense. Across Europe, people see Trump as a weak president who is terrified of confronting Putin. Every excuse merely reinforces that impression.
Eighty years ago, America’s greatest generation crossed the Atlantic to confront tyranny. They fought, bled and died for the freedom of people they had never met.
Now their successors explain that helping Ukraine defend its children is a matter of inventory management.
What an extraordinary humiliation for a once-great American tradition.
Your names will occupy a particularly shameful chapter in the history books of a billion people. I suspect it will come immediately after the chapter celebrating the Americans who liberated Europe.
One generation stood up to a dictator. Yours appears frightened of upsetting one.
And you expect the world to respect these excuses?

The rifle was the equivalent of the drone in late 18th century infantry warfare, a contraversial weapon that eventually changed everything. Rifles enabled marksmanship at range, to pick off officers and skirmishers. They were slow firing and unsuited to formed infatry tactics.

I spoke with Marco Rubio @SecRubio, and it was a substantive conversation – focused on the issues that matter. I am grateful for his readiness to help and his clear position. First, ballistic missile interceptors, which are needed to protect lives. Second, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, which is vital. Third, the situation with Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored. Of course, all of this comes against the backdrop of our diplomatic efforts to end this horrific war and the constant killing of people. We agreed to get in touch again soon for an update. Thank you, Marco, for the constructive discussion! Thank you to everyone in America who supports fair approaches!

What's remarkable about this clip (which I've now watched five times to see if I'm missing something) is that Rubio's own analysis leads inexorably to the conclusion that the current US position -- placing the onus for peace on Ukraine -- makes no sense even in its own terms.

Starlink has absolutely no role in the one military campaign Trump claims he wants Ukraine to end: hitting Russian oil refineries. It only works in Ukraine and it helps with air defense — homegrown air defense, to be specific, which was born of necessity because we aren’t providing enough missile interceptors. A Russian Shahed today killed a one-year baby in a park. The U.S. is actively making it easier for Russia to commit these atrocities by throttling satellite internet. All while Trump makes excuses for Putin.
🇺🇦 Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States:
“Just give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it.
But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people?
I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.”
Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.

A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children.
I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.

Too clever by half. He correctly notes that Ukraine cannot give up its fortress belt because that'd give the Russians a "straight shot into Kyiv." Yet he insists the war is just about 11% of territory. No, the lie is in his explanation: Putin wants the 11% at the negotiating table because he cannot take it on the battlefield; and he wants it because it gives him another opportunity to make a play for Kyiv at a later date. The Russians don't want to end the war, they want the U.S. to create the more amenable conditions for the continuation of the war in future. The tragedy of Rubio is that he's in better command of the facts than anyone else in this administration but he nonetheless ends up acting a mouthpiece for policies he knows are wrong.

Another Russian ballistic missile attack came in several waves overnight, and once again, there was no early warning from our partners. They again targeted energy facilities and infrastructure, but a medical clinic, a school, a metro station, and ordinary residential buildings were also damaged. In total, the Russians launched 16 ballistic missiles in a deliberate attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The Russians also launched more than 200 drones of various types, including jet-powered “shaheds,” with attacks spanning from the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions to the Volyn, Rivne, and Odesa regions. Sadly, there are casualties. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Those who were injured are receiving assistance. Overnight and this morning, Russia attacked energy facilities in the Vinnytsia, Volyn, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Odesa, and Rivne regions. In this one night alone, more than 10 energy infrastructure facilities were damaged, and the lights went out for at least 550,000 families. Repair crews are working at the sites.
Ukraine never wanted this war, and we have welcomed literally EVERY attempt by our partners to bring this war to a dignified end. We have responded positively to EVERY ceasefire proposal. Russia's response, time and again, has been ballistic missiles, “shaheds,” and killings. Putin not only doesn't want to end this war – he doesn't even want to take any steps toward de-escalation. EVERY ONE of our partners has experienced this firsthand when they heard Russia's refusals. And it is crucial to call things what they are. To call the aggressor an aggressor and help Ukraine defend lives. When deliveries of missiles for Ukraine's air defense are blocked while Russia is granted relief or delays in sanctions, this is, unfortunately, a denial of reality on the part of our partners. The reality is that the war continues, and it continues solely because of Russian strikes and Russia's desire to drag this war out. I thank everyone who recognizes this reality and helps Ukraine!

Trump: "Zelenskyy is not helping matters much. I think he doesn't want to stop the war."
FACT CHECK: Ukraine and Zelenskyy personally agreed to an unconditional ceasefire proposed by Trump in March 2025. Russia did not.
Zelenskyy explicitly proposed a cease-fire on energy infrastructure multiple times. Russia rejected it.
Zelenskyy also pushed for a mutual ban on long-range strikes. Russia rejected that as well.
The only thing Zelenskyy has refused to do is surrender or cease resisting Russian aggression.

She is only the latest Duke Class (Type 23) warship of the Royal Navy to be retired from service. Eyebrows have been raised by this vessel - commissioned in 1993 but given a £103 million life extension refit completed 2023 - being discarded.
The Iron Duke effectively finished her career in October 2025, thereafter remaining alongside at Devonport, with no formal decommissioning announcement but was stripped of weapons and sensors.
The RN has been left with just five frigates, at a time of unrelenting demand for them to carry out various duties in home seas, not least keeping an eye on Russian activity off British shores.

I met in Kyiv with a team from the American defense company Lockheed Martin, which helps us save lives. Its Patriot systems and F-16 aircraft play an important role in defending against Russian ballistic missiles and jet-powered “shaheds.” And things are not easy with either right now. We discussed how we can expand and increase supplies. The company is currently ramping up production of ballistic missile interceptors. We count on the opportunity to purchase some of them to protect more lives. We are also trying to do everything possible to ensure that F-16 maintenance and repairs are carried out in Ukraine. Thank you for the meeting. It is important that Lockheed Martin has a presence in Ukraine. We are doing everything on our part to expand our partnership.
