This is a really incredible tweet because it lets you see into the mind of the average shitlib like Evan. Evan has an internal mandate derived from a few axioms. 1. "All billionaires are evil" 2. "All Republicans are either stupid or evil" 3. "Everything that evil people do is itself evil" From those axioms he logically concludes "Well if Elon did something I would normally find good, it actually is something that is bad." So in this case he has a few options at his disposal: 1. He can criticize the motivation, claiming racism or some sort of nationalist argument 2. He could criticize the method, arguing that this is just a way to pump the stocks 3. He could criticize the speed at which the shares are distributed. There's really an infinite list of little conspiracies that Evan could fabricate on the spot, but there's a reason he chose #3. Ultimately Evan isn't against helping children, quite the opposite in fact. If there was a system that stripped Elon Musk of his wealth and distributed it to children in the US, Evan would 100% support this. What he's against is giving Elon credit for anything Elon does, even if that thing does help children. Because Evan, fundamentally, believes that everything that Billionaires do is in furtherance of their evil. Evan wants to call this out. He wants to "inform" everyone that Elon is "still evil". Choosing option 1 and 2 still concedes that Elon is, in fact, pledging to help children. Option 3, however, implies is that Elon is actually deceiving children. So that's where Evan ultimately hangs his hat. "Elon is deceiving children." What's funny here is a quick google search can explain why Elon can't distribute his shares currently. Those shares are still subject to the IPO lockup for the next year. Evan, however, doesn't *need* to find or utilize the truth, because he believes, deep down, that his axioms are actually the real truth. He believes he has a deeper knowledge than the "stupid rubes who don't hate Elon". Anything that Elon says or does, Evan can find some contrived excuse about why it is either untruthful or evil based on those axioms. This is because Evan is a conspiracy theorist, whose axioms are fundamentally flawed. He is no different from a flat earther, who will simply ignore any evidence to the contrary of his beliefs. He wasn't actively contemplating his beliefs when he wrote this tweet. He was acting on instinct, knowing what gets views, and running this as a 'dunk' which is likely why he neglected to fact check his statement before releasing it. The only thing that flashed in his head was "Clearly Elon is hiding something," just like how flat earthers respond to any evidence from NASA. Evan focused on the 'next year' qualifier, and immediately had an "Ah ha!" moment and ran with it. Ultimately, his revelation was false as the Community Note proved. He doesn't understand the broader implications of the topic he's talking about. But that doesn't matter to Evan, because Evan is a conspiracy theorist. Evan fundamentally believes that any explanation that could be given for why Elon would have to wait next year would be false automatically, ultimately, because any rebuttal would violate his axioms, which he believes to be true. Evan will never adjust these axioms. Doing so will utterly obliterate his worldview. So Evan will continue pretending that he has "secret knowledge" of the "true nature of billionaires". He will post as though he has it all figured out, when in reality he doesn't have the faintest clue about how the world works. Just like a flat earther.
