Women protesting patriarchy in Delhi raised a slogan ‘ek kachori do samosa, in mardon ka kya bharosa’.
It reminded me of another slogan. In 1978, Indira Gandhi was fighting the Chikmagalur by-election to make her comeback.
She had lost power, and people from RSS and Sangh were trying to humiliate her when she was down. Her supporters answered with ‘Ek sherni Sau Langoor, Chikmagalur, Chikmagalur’.
Tbh both slogans speak to the same anger. This Sanghi mindset thinks it can mock women and put them in their place. Indira Gandhi stood her ground and won that election.
I hope the voices we heard in Delhi grow into something much bigger.

Peacefully protesting outside the Bharuch Collector’s Office, demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, and this is how the police chose to respond… I along with so many of our congress karyakartas were detained and handled roughly by police personnel, including one in plain clothes and another without a visible badge.
Across the country, Congress workers were protesting the same issue today. Peaceful protest is a democratic right… it should not be met with force.

Thank you for saying this Rahul. This is what our PM should be saying. But I guess rapes are never a culture shock to him. To me and millions of women across this country education and women/child safety are the biggest election issues. We are half the population and we refuse to accept solutions that curb our freedoms even further. Fix the mentality of the men in this country, severly punish the perpetrators and build laws and monitoring systems both online and in the streets. And trust me you cannot smash the patriarchy with a misogynistic party/leadership.
Stop punishing women for the crimes committed against them.
Across our country, women are afraid to walk the streets, afraid of being harassed, afraid of being raped. And the government’s answer: stay at home.
This is patriarchy at work: a system that blames the victim and shields the criminal. It is time to smash it.
The solution is not to lock women inside. It is to make our streets safe, to confront the mindset of men who mistreat women, and to punish those who attack them, swiftly and without exception.
Thousands of students and young people are on the streets demanding safety for women. I urge even more young women, especially GenZ across India to come out in stronger numbers.
This government is deaf to your pain and will only listen when it’s under pressure.
Peaceful protest is your democratic right, and I stand with you wholeheartedly.

इन दिनों दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के महिला कॉलेजों में छात्राएँ सड़कों पर उतरकर डर से आज़ादी, सुरक्षित सार्वजनिक स्थान और पितृसत्तात्मक बंदिशों से मुक्ति की आवाज़ बुलंद कर रही हैं। LSR के पास एक 17 वर्षीय छात्रा के साथ कथित सामूहिक बलात्कार की घटना के बाद LSR, Gargi, Miranda House, Kamala Nehru सहित कई कॉलेजों की छात्राओं ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किए हैं।
इन युवा लड़कियों को डर के सामने चुप रहने के बजाय पितृसत्ता को खुलकर चुनौती देते देखना उम्मीद जगाता है।
