This is a hilarious and creative percussion performance by The Bands of HM Royal Marines, recorded at the 2019 Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The two percussionists combine exceptional musical skill with a distinctly British sense of humor. Alongside their regular percussion instruments, they use unexpected objects, such as pipes, to produce unique sounds. The result is a performance that showcases impressive musicianship while delivering plenty of clever and entertaining moments.

Thousands of years of wars, invasions and bloodshed, and it’s mostly been men behind it all. Even today, it’s still men starting wars, giving orders and sending people to die. Millions of lives destroyed, and somehow we still haven’t learned a damn thing!

Imagine a brilliant female teacher got sacked because she was in a relationship with an adult male? welcome to 1980s Ireland! In 1982, Eileen Flynn lost her job at the Holy Faith convent secondary school New Ross, Co. Wexford. She hadn't broken any law or been bad to her students. Her sin/crime was falling in love with a "separated" man with children. And as if that wasnt enough, the "harlot" chose to live with him! In Ireland in 1982, that was enough. Divorce was still unconstitutional, and would remain so until a razor-thin referendum in 1995. A separated man, like Eileen Flynns partner Richard Jones, could not remarry. So the school's management decided that a teacher living openly with him was a scandal worthy of dismissing her. Because there wasn't any other Catholic schoolkid related issues worthy of anger at the time... Eileen Flynn courageously fought back, heretic hussy that she was, under the Unfair Dismissals Act. And the Employment Appeals Tribunal sided with the school. When she appealed to the High Court, she lost again in 1985. The judge accepted that a school could protect its religious ethos, and that a teacher's private conduct could be held against her. The good aul days, eh?

2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Navi Pillay’s commitment to universal legal principles and her firm moral compass are constants in a long career. Born into a family of Indian Tamil origin under apartheid in Durban, South Africa, Pillay became a lawyer and legal pioneer, confronting deep structural discrimination, segregation and exclusion. A common thread runs from her early work defending Nelson Mandela and others who stood up against apartheid to her service as a judge in some of the key international court cases of our time. This year’s laureate has significantly enlarged the scope and impact of international law. She has served as a judge on the High Court in South Africa, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court. She was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, until recently, she chaired the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Today Navi Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice in the case where Myanmar stands accused of genocide. In historic international court cases, she has shown that legal measures can help prevent acts of war and violence. Navi Pillay has also contributed to strengthen the institutions of international law. Her independence, expertise and steadfastness have made her one of the most respected international jurists of our time.
