People are really misunderstanding what I mean by this. I’m saying English can express everything using only 26 characters. That’s efficient. Whereas kanji is thousands of characters. So a single word might be less characters, but you need to know which of thousands it is.

English is literally more efficient than Japanese because we can do more with less. We don’t need thousands of different symbols to write a newspaper. We can do it with just 26 characters, and a handful of grammar symbols.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
English text for equivalent content is typically longer than Japanese due to kanji's higher semantic density per character; Japanese newspapers use a fixed ~2,136 Jōyō kanji plus kana, not thousands of arbitrary symbols. theatlantic.com/technology/arc… cozycornerdesign-ca.com/blog/How-many-… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C5%8Dy%… sankei.com/article/201706…

This idiot thinks English couple have a baby in Japan makes the baby Japanese. As someone in this exact situation right now (English couple having a baby in Japan) I can categorically tell you the Japanese would laugh at me if I said my baby was Japanese. What a moron.
