His name is William Campbell. A lookalike who won a Paul McCartney impersonation contest, slid into the most famous band in history, and the world never noticed. Except the Beatles couldn’t live with the secret. So they told you through their music, and hoped you’d hear it.

Hitler had been dead for three weeks when Churchill asked his generals for a plan to attack the Soviet Union. German soldiers were supposed to march on his side.
The plan was called Operation UNTHINKABLE.
In May 1945, British military planners examined a surprise attack on the Red Army, with July 1 set as the starting date. The offensive would involve British and American forces, Polish troops, and rearmed Wehrmacht divisions.
But Stalin already knew what was coming from Soviet intelligence. In June, Marshal Zhukov unexpectedly regrouped Soviet forces and strengthened their defenses.
Meanwhile, British generals were doing the math. The Red Army outnumbered Western forces in Central Europe by roughly three to one. A quick victory looked unlikely, and a full-scale war against the USSR could drag on for years.
Churchill never launched the attack. But he had ordered his generals to prepare for war against the very country Britain had just fought alongside.

My read, up front: the purge is no longer limited to criminals and outsiders. It's reaching the people who designed the system, and it's happening in Moscow, Beijing and everywhere in between.
Last week, a Moscow court put one of Russia's most decorated economists under house arrest for taking a bribe.
He isn't a dissident. He's an insider. For seventeen years he ran the academy that trains Russia's foreign-trade officials. He helped write the national development strategy and was personally commended for it by the president. He sat on the government's own expert council. He was already convicted once last year and walked away with a suspended sentence. Now they've come back for him a second time.
The same thing is happening in China. Days before Beijing's biggest political meeting of the year, investigators opened a case on a former Chongqing mayor, the right-hand man of a leader who was purged more than a decade ago. He survived that purge and he's caught now. The people who once ran China's anti-corruption machine are being investigated themselves. The generals were removed first.
And it isn't only the big powers. Brazil arrested a former police chief. Germany arrested a former spy chief. In America, a CIA officer admitted giving away a secret source.
Here's what ties it together. Every system has people who know where the money went, who signed off, and who was protected. Those are the people being taken off the board right now: the planners, the enforcers, and the ones who survived the last cleanup.
