The work didn’t end with VE Day... After the victory in Europe, Bletchley Park didn’t simply switch off the lights. Staff remained on site. Offices were slowly cleared, hut histories were written, and final reports that were once top secret were not declassified until the early 2000s. And what about the Bombe machines? Most were dismantled and destroyed. Kathleen Jackson (née Dernier), who served as a Bombe Operator at Eastcote Outstation, remembered: “When the war with Germany was finally over in May 1945, for a time everything went quiet, but then we were put to work dismantling the Bombes, removing the drums and teasing out all the wires. It was quite sad really, after all that work and what they had achieved.” 📸 Here’s a rare photo of the Bombes at Eastcote, taken in 1944. #BletchleyPark #VEday #WWIIHistory #HiddenHistory #Codebreaking #Eastcote #WomenInWWII
