This might sound crazy. But one of the skills you NEED to learn is how to deal with a more and more illiterate society full of emotionally dysregulated people. If you keep getting frustrated every day over how "ďumb" everything/everyone seems, the stress of it is going to wreck your mind.

Somewhere in your 20s or 30s you'll get the opportunity to rebuild your life after a negative loop, heal from what broke you, live in your own space, reconnect with your discipline, and learn to love yourself again. It's very important that you see that journey through.
What's the hardest lesson you've learned?

Life when you genuinely give up on computers and start living deep in the woods away from any tech.

Trying hard in school and getting all the right qualifications just to have your future decided by whether some lady in HR likes your personality and appearance during a 30 minute interview

The interview was just a formality. They already made up their mind to hire you. Affirm it!!

Did you know companies have "DNU" lists? This stands for "Do Not Use." If you land on here it means you can't be hired. Sometimes for a short period of time, sometimes for a few years, sometimes even longer. You can get on this type of list for a few reasons, mostly for what they'd consider burning a bridge. Some examples include: • You worked there before and scorched earth before leaving • Backing out of a job offer after officially accepting • Quitting early after just starting the job For example, at my current company, my main market is a tier 2/3 city where two banks dominate the job market. If you work in tech here, chances are you're going to work for at least one of them in your career and interview at both. I was working with a SWE who was coming out of the one bank. I told him I had openings at the other and we started trying to book him interviews. But we couldn't, because we learned he was on that DNU list when we went to book an interview. I called him back and told him, asked what happened and how he ended up on there. He said last year he accepted an offer at that bank, but backed out because his current company offered a counter. They didn't live up to most of the promises they made so he wanted back out. Tough situation to be in. If you work in these types of cities where only a couple companies dominate the job market, you gotta think twice before burning bridges like that.

When you stop reading books, you start losing verbal dexterity, depth of thought and imagination. A closed book is a closed mind. Don't EVER stop reading.

This soft slap was taken more seriously than Israel killing thousands of Palestinians kids. Let that sink in...

Someone once said, if you spend all day at a fish market, you'll leave smelling like fish even if you didn't touch one. But if you spend your day in a perfume shop, you'll leave smelling good even if you didn't buy anything. Your environment always rubs off on you. Spend time around people who complain. You'll see negativity everywhere, spend time around people who make excuses. You'll never change, but spend it with people of action, you'll feel inspired to move. Spend it with people of gratitude. You'll see blessings everywhere. The scent of your environment will always follow you.

As a mentally ill person I firmly believe that dropping out of life for any length of time will make you more mentally ill and you might never get back on track. Do not do it, I’ve seen this happen to several people over the years.

Yea if I could go back, I’d focus on Linux and Splunk. Those two alone can take you far.

The final act of healing is really realizing everyone that went against you & got off on antagonizing you to death were beneath you & they knew the shit too. It’s almost like everyone did except you.

Things hiring managers say after the interview that mean no: • We’ll keep you in mind for future roles • The team really enjoyed meeting you • We’re still talking to a few more people • You were a strong candidate • We’ll be in touch soon
