Readers here not only devour books and exhaust this library’s collection at breakneck speed, they also write stories that library leaders lobby hard to get into children’s magazines like Chakmak or get published by Bhopal’s many children’s publishers.

The Savitribai Phule Fatima Sheikh group led by Saba Khan, runs free libraries and reading projects in Bhopal, largely in Dalit, Adivasi and Pasmanda Muslim communities. If you want to see “Reading is thinking” and “Reading for resistance” in action, it is here.

A few years back when I joined my law school, I came across @CommunityLibPro I joined as a volunteer there, & within a short span of time TCLP created a massive impact in my life which inspired me to start @BansaLibrary, the first community Library of my home district Hardoi, UP.

For USD 8, you can pay for a copy that @blaftness will give to the wonderful @FreeLibNetwork (which is doing amazing work to put books in the hands of all, and for the right to free libraries).
You can also do this as an add-on to any of the other tiers.

Laila is one of our most brilliant and committed librarians. She has used her own history and struggle to deliver the best library programs to our community. She is proof that when libraries are free and run by the people, they empower the library and everyone in its ambit.

Today at my free library @CommunityLibPro there was so much queer joy. Our Pride event had been cancelled last week because we got flooded badly. But the community rallied and we today celebrated.
Free libraries for ALL. Safe and welcoming spaces for ALL. Satrangi salaam 🏳️🌈

Folks who can donate, please do!
We’ve lost over 1500 out of our 10,000 books in one night.
Our librarians are furiously salvaging our precious books, furniture and all that our members hold dear, so much of what makes us a community.
And we need help.
