ALT Procedural explanation What are Estimates days? The House of Commons sets aside three 'Estimates days' each session on which to consider the Estimates of public spending by government departments. The topic of debate on these days is decided when the Backbench Business Committee makes a recommendation to the Liaison Committee, which in turn makes a recommendation to the House. The topic chosen for debate must relate to a particular Estimate. Because this is a long session, the House has increased the number of days to five.
