Shining a light on #HispanicHeritageMonth in Clark County! Clark County @CommishMcCurdy hosted a special ceremony at the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. The world-famous sign was illuminated in bright yellow to honor the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and countless contributions of our Hispanic residents who make up 32% of our Southern Nevada community!
Commissioner McCurdy was joined by Congresswoman Dina Titus, Congressman Steve Horsford, Norma Carbajal of the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, Consul Pablo Alejandro Molina Leonardo of the Consulate General of Guatemala in Las Vegas, and Mike Flores from the Nevada Youth Network.
The event also recognized Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Martha Luevanos, who was recognized for their outstanding service and dedication to preserving and sharing rich cultural traditions across our community.
Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15, celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This morning, I was honored to stand with the family and friends of Angel Naranjo as we dedicated a bench in his memory along the Wash Trail at ecos and Lake Mead.
May Angel be remembered for the light he brought to everyone around him, as he will never be forgotten.
Always Remember. Never Forget.
On September 11, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of the first responders who answered the call. We honor their sacrifice by carrying their memory forward and standing united as a community.
