Not to add to the fire but it’s crazy to me that I saw a general public screening of CLAYFACE, that had no embargo details, requests or anything, about two days before they screened it for critics.

To find out that my review would potentially need to be delayed due to an embargo I didn’t agree to and didn’t know about is ridiculous.

CRYSTAL LAKE Episode 7 feels like what Ryan Murphy would do if he was told to make a Friday the 13th prequel. I don't mean that as a compliment. The modern need to explain things that were best left unexplained can lead to baffling decisions. Jason's new backstory is one of 'em!

Man, #Clayface will go down as the most frustrating film of the year. Frequently (maybe accidentally) brushes up against GENUINELY compelling ideas of societal expectations, repressed identity, queerness in media, gender dysphoria, visibility through art, only to be ignored or arrive at the least interesting version of itself. Everything is as superficial as Hagen's career. You can FEEL Flanagan's more esoteric examination of personhood trying hard to burst out of the confines of what's otherwise a campy B-monster movie, and man, does it suck to see. No idea why they didn't wait for him; it feels like an unforced error. A technically impressive film with some seriously GNARLY special effects, actors making a meal out of scraps, only to be let down by...the (rewritten) script, resulting in a tonally confused, albeit interesting and at times enjoyable, misfire that perhaps exposes Gunn's limitations as the head of the studio.

Clayface is torn between being a fun-nasty B-movie and a dark psychodrama, but doesn’t do the psychodrama part well. There’s a 15 minute stretch where this goes full B-movie, and it rocks, so you can’t help but wonder why the hell the whole movie isn’t like that.
Now seated for Clayface (2026). This is easily my most anticipated DC movie for a while, really hope this is more of a horror movie and less of a modern comic book movie. Also curious to see what a Mike Flanagan script directed by James Watkins looks like.

#Clayface was an ok film nothing to blow your socks, but the biggest question is was this film needed? Imo no its not a bad film but I do feel like its a waste of time overall and the DCU needs to be built better. As a standalone film its ok but in a connected universe cont....

thoughts on CLAYFACE later, but call me crazy but I was under the impression that the whole selling point of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC universe was that they wouldn’t start making movies until they had finished scripts that were good.

Reposting this in the wake of the debate of sex and nudity in horror. The desexualization of American media is a symptom of Fascism that makes it easier to police people's bodies. Anyone complaining about seeing "sex" everywhere in film/tv/games isn't living in reality.
Hellraiser is ripe for revival because we live in the most sexless media landscape ever. Clive Barker’s worlds never shied away from transgression and pushing boundaries. So anyone who thinks the new game is too extreme is a Hellraiser larper. I’m sorry to say it.

Getting in on the ground floor of this one in that Kirby is right. and before decades-long US-based pros yell about their livelihood, while pros from other countries give their very real, lived experience of how pirating gave them joy & helped them
Piracy Discourse™️ starting up again so: 1. Marvel & DC dont have their full backlog available through their apps 2. Their apps arent available worldwide 3. Comics are now *at least* $5/issue & continuing to increase 4. Cost isnt standard worldwide (more expensive outside of US)

This scene in Carrie is why I can't completely say it's one of Flanagan's weakest projects. It was here where I genuinely wanted to give it 5 stars no questions asked, and the show only got better and better. Give Summer H. Howell that Emmy.

I did a whole video on this and dissected the actual issues with the business side of comics (direct market distribution, speculators, etc)
Is the reason more so that American comics got quarantined into their own specialty shops over the years whereas US manga publishers decided it’s way better for business to just sell shit where people will go to buy books?

Finally finished Flanagan’s Carrie, and I personally found the finale of the show to be far thornier and complex than people are giving it credit for. For one, I kind of can’t believe people are acting like Carrie didn’t have agency. She absolutely does.

how it feels watching carrie not expecting a perfect page by page book accurate adaptation from mike flanagan, who famously does not do page by page book accurate adaptations

Came back to twitter for the first time in months to see crazy levels of Flanagan hate because of CARRIE, which I’ve loved so far. Great reminder why I’ve mostly left this place.
