☀️ A dry August has continued to affect water resources across London and the Thames Valley. Rainfall was well below average, with groundwater and river levels remaining lower than we'd typically expect for this time of year. Reservoir levels are currently at 61% in London and 76% in the Thames Valley. Our teams are continuing to monitor conditions closely and manage water resources to help maintain resilient supplies for customers and the environment. As dry conditions continue, we'd like to thank customers for continuing to use water wisely. 💧

Water is precious. We're using it faster than nature can replace it, and to protect it we must use less. #LetsSaveWater is a campaign that helps people understand how to use water more efficiently, and make water-saving part of everyday life: ofwat.gov.uk/regulated-compa…

Following a very dry spring and three record-breaking heatwaves, water use across our region has soared—with some homes using 50% more than usual. With the Met Office forecasting more hot, dry weather ahead, we’re implementing a hosepipe ban across our region, effective this Thursday 23 July. We’ve acted now to protect essential supplies so taps keep running for everyone's core needs. While our teams work around the clock to fix leaks, we need your help too. We’re asking everyone to take a break from using: ❌ Hosepipes ❌ Sprinklers ❌ Jet washers Please continue using water as needed to stay healthy and hydrated! 🔗 Read more about the ban and what it means for you: thameswater.co.uk/hosepipe-b…

The arguments against a 3rd Runway at Heathrow are growing significantly on so many fronts that it’s time renew Labour administration quietly closed down the plan once and for all at the end of the consultation period in September.
Probably the biggest threat to any river system in the UK is #Heathrow’s disastrous proposals to build on top of, divert and merge 5 rivers for nearly 2km which will ruin ecological connectivity over a 1000km2 catchment...

The European eel is a truly fascinating creature, spending its life in freshwater rivers, streams, and even ponds, before turning silvery blue and swimming all the way to Bermuda’s Sargasso Sea to breed. Eels are disappearing fast. Join Joe Pecorelli of the Zoological Society of London and me on Rewilding the World to hear about amazing eels and what can be done to restore them to their former abundance. Out now wherever you get your podcasts. 📸 - @OfficialZSL

Name a better engineer than a London beaver. We’ll wait. 🦫 These incredible creatures were reintroduced to the city and have already stepped up to stop flooding at a Tube station and restore local habitats. Nature is healing (and civil engineering). npr.org/2026/05/21/nx-s1-573…

We're proud of what we've achieved for the #RiverVer since 1976 and delighted that it's all been planned and delivered entirely by volunteers. Come and see us in Verulamium Park, St Albans in June: river dipping for all the family and ask us anything about the River Ver!

It's not always pleasant work but our volunteers are on the river in all weathers, testing the water, uncovering the issues and encouraging solutions. Phosphates, nitrates, heavy metals, sewage, sediment, E. coli, forever chemicals and many more, We are on the case!

Every river needs water. That's why we have been campaigning for change since 1976, when most of the #RiverVer dried up for the first time. 50yrs later, over-abstraction has been largely reversed and the Ver is looking more like the #chalkstream it once did.

One measure of the #RiverVer's health is the abundance of invertebrates living in the river. Every month a dedicated team of 20 volunteers survey nearly 20 spots along the Ver to check that all is well.

Our volunteers take on all sorts of tasks to ensure the River Ver and its banks remain in better shape. Collecting bags of rubbish, from cans and bottles to footballs and dog poo bags, isn't everyone's favourite job but we love our chalk stream!

Whether it's a brief glimpse of a vole or signs along the bank, our volunteers record it all. This year there are 10 miles of river to check, that's 20 miles of bank! Wish us luck!
