If Mexico hadn’t nullified its 1824 Constitution and tried to centralize power, Texas would still be a part of Mexico and Mexico would be a global power.
Texans were guaranteed a republican form of government, and the centralists reneged. Two-thirds of Mexico revolted and Texas was successful in breaking away.
The centralization of power destroys nations.

Stephen F. Austin’s Map of Texas, 1833 edition. Austin compiled it himself and H.S. Tanner published it in Philadelphia. One of the first accurate maps of Texas.
Texas was still part of Mexico. The Mexican eagle sits on its cactus right above the title, and the positions of San Antonio, Nacogdoches and Laredo come from a Mexican general’s observations.
Austin’s Colony and DeWitt’s Colony fill the coastal plain. Out west it just says “Comanche Indians” and “Immense Herds of Buffalo.”
Three years later, Texas was a republic.
