Beautiful sunrise this morning from Lough Beg in Bellaghy. As the saying goes "Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning" The rain is on its way.

These storms will be dangerous today and immediate shelter should be sought the moment you see anything threatening or hear thunder. These could break records today. US level severe for NW i.e. Donegal, Sligo and Mayo in particular, but also western portions of Leitrim, Femenagh, Tyrone and Londonderry. These areas should be alert to the fact that the atmosphere today is primed for supercell development and that storms will be very dangerous with very large hail (damaging and deadly), damaging wind gusts > 60mph, biblical rainfall and flash flooding and extreme lightning. Given the impressive kinematics there is also an elevated risk of rotation with thunderstorms and thus some storms could go on to produce a significant tornado. Take care and stay safe out there today. Love Mesocast.
