Watched Western Carolina at UNC for Mike Malone debut. UNC got 80-72 win but Tar Heels need work! - Out-rebounded 41-32 (WC got 13 Off Rebs). They spent $20 million on UNC - can't happen vs mid-major. - Not great from 3 (9 for 30, 30%) & not enough attacking rim. - D was shaky.

Exciting opening win for Iona over Vermont. Iona gets bucket w/ less than second left for win! This is different Iona team from last year - more gritty, tough & better defensively! 2 stars for Iona: Kevon Vanderhorst with winning shot & 27 pts & Kosy Akametu w/ 18 pts! GO GAELS!

HERE'S 4 CBB GAMES TO WATCH ON MONDAY! Florida vs Miami, 6PM ESPN2 in Tampa Purdue vs Gonzaga, 7:30PM TNT in Las Vegas Ohio St vs BYU, 9PM FS1 in Salt Lake City Arizona vs UCLA, 10PM TNT in Las Vegas

2 Days to Tipoff of CBB Season! Larry Bird played 3 years (1976–79) at Indiana St - 30.3 ppg, 13.3 rpg & 4.6 apg. Went to Indiana for just 24 days, then excelled at Indiana St! Led Sycamores to 1979 NCAA Finals, losing to Magic Johnson & Michigan St - was National Player of Year!

I was curious where some of metrics based websites rank Iona University hoops in Metro Conf (13 teams) - BTW, the MAAC changed its name to Metro. KenPom #2 Torvik #4 EvanMiya #5 But I get it - rankings based on analytics don't really matter until at least a month into season!

3 Days to Tipoff of CBB Season! Patrick Ewing was intimidating! As St. John's fan in 80s, all games vs Georgetown were rough & Ewing was such a tough defender. Ewing played 4 seasons (1981–5) for Hoyas (15.3 PPG, 9.2 RPG & 3.4 BPG) & led Hoyas to 1984 NCAA title & 3 Final Fours.

5 Days to Tipoff of CBB Season! Hakeem Olajuwon was a big star at Houston from 1981-84 A dominant defender w/ 5 blocks a game in final 2 years, 1st Team All‑American & led nation in rebounds in 1984, Final 4 Most Outstanding Player in 1983 & 3 times led Phi Slama Jama to Final 4!

6 Days to Tipoff of CBB Season! One of the most dominant players I've seen in CBB is Ralph Sampson. At 7'4", 3‑time National Player of Year & consensus All‑American, Sampson dominated the court from 1981–83. He's one of best players in ACC History & was MVP of NIT! And HOFer!

7 Days to Tipoff of CBB Season! He played college basketball long ago, but Lew Alcindor was one of greatest players ever (changed name to Kareem Abdul Jabbar). His record at UCLA 88-2, he won 3 NCAA Championships & was NCAA Tourney MVP all 3 times. #1 pick in 1969 NBA Draft!
