For the last few months I've been working on the Black Maternal Health Project with @CollEnc, @Natalie_Denny_ , @LJMU Midwifery and @NML_Muse to see what we can learn from past midwifery care to help fight higher mortality rates for Black mothers in the UK. This poem, cowritten during our public workshops, focuses on Marie Hoover, a midwife born under slavery @CaneRiverCreole who delivered Black and white children over decades in Louisiana. Video by LJMU PhD researcher, Hanna Nsugbe.

Yesterday, I had the privilege to see an imaginative, thought-provoking show from the women of @CollEnc that took segments from the BBC archives in the 1960s and addressed topics such as women's healthcare, societal stigmas women still face presently and more. Marvellous show! 👏

ALT A group of women are stood on a stage holding a series of signs that say the following messages: More women in science. Stop female genital mutilation. Smash the barricades. End toxic masculinity. Accely women's right to choose. Equality has no gender. Love and peace. With acceptance comes equality. Women's health matters. Today equal pay. In the background of the group, on a black screen there is a message that reads: keep fighting for change!
