Did you know a decade of female athletes posed nude in ESPN’s Body Issue with balls, bats, and rackets?
That ran for 11 years, and I don’t recall any outrage over their exposed bodies?
Now Sydney Sweeney does a similar visual for a sports ad and suddenly it’s “hypersexualizing women in sport” and “setting women’s sports back.”
It was LITERALLY the same pose language, but clearly Sydney just has different politics.
ESPN Body Issue was framed as empowerment, yet Sydney is framed as a degenerate.
You can dislike the ad, you can think a betting company using a non athlete nude is tacky…fine.
Just don’t pretend this is a sudden discovery that sex sells or that naked women with sports equipment is new because it isn’t.
The only new variable is who she is and how she votes, and just know we see you!
