One of the most bizarre (and devastating) consequences of clinical PTSD is when you develop the ability to react only in extreme situations.

This is why you see people going back to prison, going back to war, going back to situations where they will likely be destroyed. The illusion that betting on your own destruction may produce a life where you're still alive.
In trading, this is known as gambler's ruin. When you play a game with net negative expected value against a counterparty with an infinite bankroll, you will always lose. No matter how strong you are, no matter what you bring to the table. Play long enough and you will lose everything.
Going back to the normal world might be difficult for you, but it's much easier than the alternative.

I don't know if trees have egos but an elder once told me about βshaman treesβ.
Something about how the oldest tree in any given forest β which is connected to every other tree through the roots system, mycelium network, chemical signals in the air, etc β has effectively absorbed or acquired the "knowledge" provided by every other tree in the forest over the course of its life, and as such, is acknowledged by the other trees as βthe one who knowsβ (which is itself the definition of the word shaman).
Until, eventually, it dies and the forest organizes its "signal" around a new wise tree where the living, millenary, collective wisdom of the forest will continue.
