study math. seriously.
not just to pass exams or solve equations, but to understand how the world actually works.
• algebra → learn to think in relationships, not just numbers
• geometry → understand space, shapes, and structure
• calculus → understand change, motion, and accumulation
• linear algebra → the foundation of robotics, graphics, and machine learning
• probability → learn to reason when nothing is certain
• differential equations → model how real systems behave over time
the beautiful thing about math is that everything connects.
the same equations that describe a pendulum can help you understand a robot. the same optimization principles show up in physics, economics, and machine learning.
and stop memorizing formulas without understanding where they come from.
derive them. visualize them. break them. rebuild them.
math isn’t about finding x.
it’s about developing a mind that can recognize patterns, understand systems, and solve problems you’ve never seen before.

Striped cuckoo chicks have unusual plumage that makes them look like pinecones. This camouflage helps them blend into their surroundings, making it harder for predators to notice them.

My honest review of the Quran:
65% pages of the Quran is Allah whining about unbelievers and hellfire while 30% is violence after violence against unbelievers, 3% is Allah poke-nosing into Muhammad sex life, and the 2% is promising Muslims sex and wine in paradise.
You come online and see someone compile a bunch of Quran verses containing phrases like “kill the disbelievers” and put them all together as if they exist without context.
And instead of asking yourself, “What does the verse before this say? What does the verse after it say? What was happening when this verse was revealed?” you simply believe it because it confirms your hatred of Islam.
Do a little research. Open the Quran. Read two or three verses before and after the quoted verse. Use any reliable source if you need help understanding the context.
You might actually discover that there is a reason those verses say what they say and that taking one sentence out of its context can completely change its meaning.
Don’t let someone else’s compilation do your thinking for you.

Introducing Bitwater: the water heater element that mines Bitcoin.
It screws into the electric tank you already have.
Physically decentralized mining that runs no matter what 🧵
Heat water. Mine Bitcoin. Same tank.

Pollen Robotics, the French robotics company owned by Hugging Face, has opened pre-orders for Microduck, a $399 robot duck that stands 25 cm tall and weighs under 800 g. Its walking, skating and fall-recovery skills were trained with reinforcement learning in the MuJoCo simulator, and the software and full training stack are open source, so owners can teach it new moves.

A Drone With Only One Motor!
And a 3D-printed propeller. And somehow, it still manages to fly.
The really interesting part is how you control it.
By accelerating and decelerating the motor more than 300 times per second, you can control the drone's thrust, pitch, and roll.
The propeller spins at almost 20,000 RPM, with its tips approaching half the speed of sound.
Getting this to work required custom firmware, a homemade high-speed imaging setup to study the blades, and hundreds of crashes.
I've been sharing Joshua Bird's videos for quite a while now. I just love the things he comes up with and how much effort he puts into making them work.
We're also going to talk about a few other projects he's currently working on. More on that soon!
And if you want to take a closer look at how he built this thing, he's made the code and CAD files open source.

This is quite interesting:
Two independent estimates of the evolution of Earth's gravity over the past 220 My produce very similar results.
One method is based on the measured body volume and estimated weight of extinct animals (mostly dinosaurs), while the other method uses a reconstruction of Earth's past diameter from a NOAA map of oceanic lithosphere ages done by Maxlow (2012). The first method uses the circumference of femur and humerus weight-bearing bones of extinct animals to estimate their weight when they were alive. The ratio of that weight to the animals' body mass (assuming an average tissue density of 0.99 tones m-3) gives an estimate of the relative gravity in the past. The second method assumes that Earth has been expanding according to Maxlow's Expansion Tectonics.
These results indicate that during the Mesozoic Era (the era of dinosaurs), from 252 My ago to 66 My ago, Earth's gravity was less than 75% of today's value. This can help explain the enormous sizes of some sauropods.
