Moving your stop because you're nervous and moving it because the market established new support are two very different things.
One is risk management. The other is letting your P&L negotiate the trade plan.
A stop should reflect where your thesis breaks. Not where your patience runs out.
Most bad trades don’t start with a terrible chart.
They start with one good-looking piece of evidence getting promoted into a full thesis.
CoinAscent checks the whole setup: regime, structure, momentum, risk/reward, conflicts and invalidation.
One green light isn’t enough.
CPI came in hot.
10Y nearly hit 5.3%.
Nasdaq sold off.
BTC still poked back above $84K.
That doesn’t make the macro backdrop good.
It does mean BTC is still making sellers work for it.
Crypto software gets weird fast if nobody checks the plumbing.
So every month we audit CoinAscent:
data quality
plan logic
lifecycle monitoring
state changes
methodology consistency
Less flashy than a new feature. (though we're working on those too)
But much more important.
Yesterday the question was whether spot sellers would keep pressing after the leverage flush.
Today:
BTC still ~$82–83K
ETF outflows accelerated
oil >$100
yields still elevated
The bounce hasn’t earned much trust yet.
Let price prove it.
BTC finally gave up some ground.
Stronger dollar. Higher yields. Oil back up. Longs getting flushed.
The next tell isn’t the red candle.
It’s whether spot sellers keep pressing after the leverage gets cleared.
Price moving isn’t the same thing as opportunity improving.
Sometimes the best thing a setup can do is stay unqualified.
Cheap ≠ good.
Moving ≠ ready.
Patience is part of the trade plan too.
Payrolls: 29K.
Unemployment: 4.2%.
October hike odds just got cut.
BTC pushed back toward $87K.
Weak jobs data isn’t automatically bullish.
But when yields ease and BTC responds immediately, that reaction matters.
BTC just finished a strong September.
Now we’ve got:
10Y yields near multi-decade highs
oil still >$100
ETF flows cooling
And BTC is still hanging around the mid-$80Ks.
Strong trend. Messy backdrop.
October should be fun.
Everyone wants to know if this BTC move is “real” or just shorts getting smoked.
Meanwhile spot ETFs pulled in nearly $2B over 4 days.
Short covering can start the move.
Persistent spot demand is what decides whether it has legs.
Small beta sample update:
34 plans tracked.
24 reached at least one target
Several reached Target 3.
Encouraging, not conclusive.
The part I care about most: every plan stays monitored after the setup. Entries, targets, stops, state changes — the whole lifecycle.
Fed hikes.
10Y >5%.
Oil >$100.
BTC: back above $80K.
You can have the cleanest macro thesis in the world. Price still gets a vote.
Sometimes the reaction is the data.
BTC sentiment just hit its hottest level since March 2024.
Meanwhile, spot momentum fell ~30% this week.
That’s a fun little mismatch.
Optimism isn’t bearish by itself. But eventually the bids have to do the talking.
Popcorn update:
CPI +0.4% MoM, 3.4% YoY.
Rate-hike odds: ~85%.
BTC still pushed near $79K after the print.
Macro got uglier. BTC didn’t.
That’s useful information.
