Congrats to Dr. Alexandra Wiscovitch Bonilla (shown here w the toughest members of her committee) for defending her PhD. If your image of a successful graduate student doesn't include a Hispanic single mother w young kids, think again.#DevBiol #gradschool #Latinx @uprm @UFBioMed
How long will it take for this thing to produce enough fruit for a cobbler? #PeachTreeDish

Postdoc opening. If you are interested in how sex differences at a single-cell level influence organ formation, and you'd like to study this in the context of genitourinary development and congenital variations, then apply to join our new GUDMAP project. bit.ly/37rax3T

Congrats to Julia Bittencourt for 2nd place tie in grad student poster competition @ the #NIDDK @GUDMAP 15th anniv mtg. Julia produced #nanoCT atlases of genitourinary development for her undergraduate project. Resources for the #urology community are at gudmap.org.
Congratulations to Chase Bryan @CDBE30 for taking 2nd prize in the postdoc poster competition at the @GUDMAP 15th anniversary meeting. Anyone interested in #genitourinary #development & #urology research should check out the data & resources available at gudmap.org.
With the start of the academic year upon us, it’s worth re-sharing this advice for #students. Prof. #SnoopDogg knows what’s up. The #syllabus isn’t just a schedule; it explains expectations, policies, assignments, grading, contact info, & tips for success.youtube.com/shorts/aL_fP5axQ…
The embryonic genital tubercle, which forms the penis & clitoris, was thought to be sexually undifferentiated before sex hormones kick-in. In her single-cell analysis of “undifferentiated” genitalia, @barmfield found sexual dimorphisms @ single-cell level. bit.ly/2SyEE1E
1000 apologies to Brooke Armfield @Barmfield26 -- I omitted the "26" from her Twitter handle and tagged the wrong person. 😳

In honor of Bob Dylan's 80th birthday, here is a photo of Dylan sitting next to my PhD mentor, Cheryll Tickle, when they were awarded honorary degrees from St. Andrews. What a thrill that must have been -- I bet Dylan had never sat beside such an esteemed developmental biologist.

My old labmates are some of my best friends. The last couple years of my PhD, despite a traumatic personal life, were happy, wonderful, and filled with laughter. The Capel Lab was a place I just loved to be in.

Save the Dates! GUDMAP celebrates 15 years of scientific achievement in genitourinary research on August 23-24 2021. More information and registration link soon!
1 yr ago, Dr Kelsey Lewis @feministbiology defended her PhD on Zoom & graduation events were cancelled😢. Yesterday, Dr Bonnie Kircher @kircherbk was hooded at an in-person (albeit low-density) graduation ceremony😁. Grateful to the scientists behind #Vaccines & to #BidenRollout.
Congratulations, Dr. Kircher. Good Luck with your postdoc at @MDAndersonNews. You’re going to do great things!
Many thanks to @CarnegieDevBio and to my host @pacleves for a fun and stimulating virtual visit last week. Such a stellar group of investigators and trainees!
