Mindset is everything.
This is true whether you are cooking, or acting, or “performing” in any sense.
Here is a mindset trick from one of the best.
Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) said:
I require what I call “requisite disrespect” for the craft. You have to care about it so much that you finally get to a place where you don’t care at all.
Often Kelsey Grammer would not fully memorize his lines. This gave his delivery a spontaneous and energized quality.
Apply the concept of “requisite disrespect” to your own writing.
Think about writing as a “performance.” A good way to improve is to write (and to publish) frequent, short pieces.
After you do this for awhile, you begin to gain perspective on the relative importance/unimportance of each given piece you publish.
This will spare you from the writer’s curse of morbid introspection.
You will begin to care a little less about whether a given piece was a B vs. an A — or whether it was an A- vs. an A+.
After all, it’s only one piece among many. And you will soon have more chances to say it better.
Grammer’s mindset of “requisite disrespect” helps us overcome the artificial quality that can come into a performance.
Instead of expecting each individual piece to obtain top quality, you allow each piece to be what it is. You thus put your own mind on notice:
-It’s going to be adequate.
-It’s going to be fast.
-We are not taking a mulligan.
Whatever we perform today is what the world is going to see.
In the short range, this will perhaps let some B-level (C-level?) writing escape your pen.
But —
In the long range, it will lead to greater values:
-More publishing experience
-A better learning experience
-Faster growth in the skills you seek

It was good to spend time recently with one of my mentors and heroes of the faith, Dr. Steven Lawson.
His new book, “Mercy in the Wilderness: How I Fell & What I Found,” is now available.
“The righteous falls seven times and rises again.” — Proverbs 24:16
This is not a book of excuses, a defense, or the carefully crafted plea for empathy that so often follows public failure. It is a confession. Lawson writes with unusual candor and painful honesty about the deception of hidden sin, the devastation it leaves behind, and the grace of God that meets a broken and repentant sinner in the depths of ruin.
His own summary is piercing: “My giftedness exceeded my godliness.”
I suspect that’s a danger for many today in ministry. In fact, I suspect it’s common to all men who desire to live a godly life.
It’s arrestingly humbling.
There is an old adage: “Never trust a man who doesn’t limp or have scars.” Fallen men should go to enormous depths to help other fallen men walk in repentance—not minimizing sin, but magnifying the mercy of God that is greater than our greatest failure.
This is not an argument for restoration to ordained ministry. I have my views, but others can form their own judgements. It is an assertion that God forgives, restores, and returns fallen men to useful ministry in His kingdom. David fell grievously. David repented deeply. David was restored—and he still stands among the godly men of Scripture.
Steven Lawson authored and edited “A Long Line of Godly Men.” It helped shape me at a pivotal moment in life, as it did countless others. Despite his terrible fall—and because I believe the gospel he preached is powerful enough to restore the preacher— in my estimation, he still stands among them.

“You do not seem to know what words mean.”
This is one of my “go to” replies to people who enter into a battle of ideas unarmed.
It is a way of saying:
“I will not even address the numerous errors you squeezed into that single sentence. You are too confused about definitions to participate.”
Some people might challenge this approach and ask: Is this not overly harsh?
No. The sting is warranted.
It is a dangerous moral error for an adult to choose to publicly enter the arena of ideas without any preparation.
He deserves the humiliation of having his error named.
It does some good for other people to observe it happening.
To the extent that we can discourage irresponsible people from splattering their ignorance into a public discussion, the world will become a better place.

Don't believe the people circling the wagon for Charles Haywood. He is 100% a supporter and celebrator of some of the most prominent Nazi and white nationalist influencers on the pagan Right.
His project is centered on boosting and normalizing (actual) neo-Nazi infiltrators in the conservative movement. And he'll gaslight you the whole way, because this is how infiltration works.
This isn't me being "the boy who cried Nazi." I've spent the last decade myself being called a Nazi by the Left. This is the real deal. Many of the people circling the wagons for him have either received money from him, are desperate to save face because they're embarrassed, or have swallowed the nihilistic NETTR ideology that demands they circle the wagons for evil.
Many people in this depraved cesspool of a network aren't Nazis, which is partly why they're so indignant right now. Some got into it with the best of intentions, and still operate with the best of intentions. But when you allow evil in your movement, it spreads like an infection. If you refuse to excise it, you'll never be able to contain it.

James deserves a nearly endless number of apologies from a myriad of people. However, I can guarantee that, while he may appreciate them, he doesn't expect apologies. James is a man of principle: he pursues and presents the truth, no matter how he may be perceived in doing so.
James isn't a Christian, but he is more Christ-like than the majority of "Christians" on X because he prioritizes truth over image. This is why I respect him as much as I do.

It is important to know and be willing to publicly state that Charles Haywood is not a Christian, a conservative, or an advocate of American values.
The man is sick in the head, and today he is making all his Woke Right friends look as bad as they deserve to look.
This is horrible, but also deserved.
