Running LLMs locally and learning in depth how they receive prompts, process them, and generate output has made me wonder how powerful the computers that run commercial AI must be, and how optimised their tools, orchestrators, inference engines, routers and classifiers must be.
Before AI, the thrill was in building software from the ground up. Now the thrill is in learning new concepts.
It's harder to learn these days than to build, and as a result, the dopamine hits harder.
Knowledge is sweet.
However, if they insist on the AI approach after being fully informed of the trade-offs, you should proceed with the implementation as requested.
If a client or founder requests AI integration that you, as a developer, identify as unnecessary overhead or mere hype, you have a responsibility to present your findings and recommend more efficient programmable logic.

I built Notoir because I needed a simple place to keep my notes. 📝
I wanted something where I could keep my notes in my own database, monitor how everything is stored, and have full control over the data.
So I decided to build it myself and I’m making Notoir open source too.
