Allah also describes those who, after sinning, “remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins” and “do not knowingly persist in wrongdoing.”
This is recognisable in the everyday struggle of a Muslim. You resist, fall short, repent and try again. Returning to the same sin can make every previous effort feel dishonest, but the struggle is to keep seeking forgiveness while changing what keeps taking you back.
Repentance means truly wanting to leave the sin, even when experience has taught you how capable you are of returning to it.
“We have made some of you a trial for others. Will you ˹not then˺ be patient?”
Someone can test you without wronging you. Their marriage, success or ease can make your own wait harder to bear, until you begin finding faults in them to make the difference feel deserved. They have done nothing except receive something you also wanted.
Part of patience is refusing to turn your disappointment with your circumstances into an injustice towards someone enjoying theirs.
