Why blockchains exist: A bank keeps the official record of payments in your account. A public blockchain lets many independent computers keep and check copies of a shared record. That’s the question blockchain tries to answer: how can people agree on who owns what without giving one organisation sole control of the ledger? #CryptoWithShola

When my banking app shows ₦20,000, there isn’t necessarily an envelope somewhere with my name and ₦20,000 inside it. The balance is a record of what the bank owes me. Thinking of money as entries in a ledger made it much easier for me to understand why blockchains exist.

A thought that helped me understand money: Money is useful because other people agree to accept it. A ₦1,000 note isn’t worth ₦1,000 because of the paper it’s printed on. Its value comes from what people will give you for it.

I’m learning Web3 from the ground up. Before touching smart contracts, I want to understand money, banks, Bitcoin, and the problem blockchains were created to solve. I’ll share what I learn here in simple language. #CryptoWithShola
