Ok, I asked Opus 5.5 to do this. In 18 minutes it had written a full SNES emulator in Rust from scratch, loaded the game and it was playable. Wow.
This isn't the end goal, but it insists the best strategy is to start with running the original machine code and iteratively porting functionality to Rust. I guess that makes sense. What am I getting into....
has anyone tried pointing a harness to an SNES ROM for a reverse engineer / Rust rewrite? Mega Man X written in Rust currently floating around in my dreams...
Sweet, was about to sign up for Anthropic again, guess I don't have to now...
I'm all for building software fast. But now everything can completely change in the time between filming a video and publishing it 😬
its out!

After being AWS-pilled for 10 years I just learned what GitOps is. Which ostensibly became popular 5 years ago?
Man I am late to this party but I'm sure glad I made it

Ever wondered how to build a serverless compute platform in Rust? 🚀
In his latest video, @CodeToTheMoons walks through the architecture behind Spacefare, sharing the technical decisions, implementation details and how Rhai and Boa made the project possible.

Just successfully taught my 5yo and 7yo how to ride bikes while GLM 5.2 chugged away inside on a big change.
AI makes me uncomfortable too. But there are clear, unambiguous wins
Yeah, I fell into this trap too 😢
For years, I thought DynamoDB was both brilliant and convenient.
- Schemaless
- Serverless
- Cheap
What's not to like?
Well, turns out, it's only cheap for a while. And the schemaless nature of DynamoDB quickly starts working against you...
One of the stupidest decisions I made.
Instead, I ditched DynamoDB and went with some boring old tech.
Let me explain 👇

Hot take - Running language models locally on high end consumer hardware will pull a ton of business away from OpenAI and Anthropic in the next few years. I’m not sure if their current valuations reflect this. Gemma 4 is really good
If you’re a developer worried about AI, you’re going to love this post. Great perspective from a legendary developer
I've got an agent in a loop optimizing a renderer with the goal to minimize frame times (and tests to measure). It got times down from 88ms to 2ms and allocations down from ~150K to 500. Sounds good, right? Wrong. This is exactly why agent psychosis is a big fucking problem.
As an experiment, I rewrote the Ghostty core render state in Go, with access to identically laid out data structures as Ghostty and the exact same validation tests. I made a purposely naive renderer (simple, correct, but slow). 88ms per frame with 150,000 allocations (horrendous, lol)!
I then kickstarted a Ralph loop to bring the frame times down. I told it it can't modify input data structures or the public API or tests (they're correct), but it can do anything else it wants. It got to work.
It has worked for about 4 hours. I've spent around $350 on this experiment so far. The results?
88ms => 1.5ms
150K allocs => ~500 allocs
Incredible right? Nope.
My hand-written renderer I ported has frame times (same benchmark) of ~20us (0.020ms) and 0 allocations in the update path.
This is the problem with psychosis and lacking systems understanding. If you don't understand the system, you're going to accept that this is an incredible result. If you understand the system, you'll see better solutions immediately and can do roughly 75x better on throughput.
The people who blindly trust agent output are in the former camp. They're sheeple, overdrinking from a fountain of mediocrity.
Standard disclaimer: I use AI all the time. I like AI. The point I'm making is to not blindly accept results. Think. Analyze. Learn.
