If your remote team is saying they are fine during your daily stand up, maybe you should give them a call and find out how to help? No one is "fine" at the moment.

It can take quite a while to get into the flow which is why we've seen so many failures when companies try to experiment with remote working for a day. Chances are minimal it'll work unless you give the team enough time to find a rhythm.

Not specific to freelancers, but I've always wanted to see some research that correlates an increase in "sick" days and an increase in staff churn. i.e. if people are unhappy, do they take days off/get sick in the lead up to leaving their employer.

Fancy DevOps can only cover up underlying team problems in the short term. There's no point in delivery quickly if the team is suffering so sort out those fundamentals before bringing more tech into play.

The whole "full stack developer" concept seems flawed so I'm hoping orgs stop adding it as a requirement. Having an *interest* in full-stack and an ability to learn is far more important than just copy/pasting from this month's TIOBE into your CV :-)
Both The Passionate Programmer (@chadfowler - 2009) and Apprenticeship Patterns (@apprenticeshipp - 2010) recommend you "Be The Worst". There's fundamental truth in this. You have to start somewhere and be openly receptive.

Agreed. It should be more like a session with a performance coach who’s objective is helping the candidate do their best work and less like a round of MMA tag teaming

If you can find them, these books are brilliant. Written in 1970 & 1980 and we still haven’t learnt the lessons.
