Thank you @CodeHS for sharing our classroom learning! My students are beginning their study of computer science by investigating the people, inventions, and ideas that built the digital world they know today.
Before students shape the future of computing, they need to understand its past. Today students used @CodeHS to research the people, inventions, and ideas that transformed technology over time. @csteachersorg @theTSIN

What do the advances in AI coding mean for CS education? AI coding means it's easier than ever to create software, which means more people will create software and need to understand how it works, not less. AI is already better than most people at reading, writing and math too. AI has effectively read the whole internet, and can write a book in five minutes. But we're not talking about stopping to teach those core subjects. We should teach the fundamentals of reading, of writing and of coding/CS - and then as students get older they can use their foundational knowledge and the best tools available -- but with some understanding. You'd run into quite a few problems if you couldn't read and write (even if your AI could). And now with AI growing in importance, you'll run into quite a few new problems if you aren't learning the basics of digital literacy and today that means computer science. Computer science is about problem solving with computers. Now with AI, it's possible for students to solve even bigger problems.

What we've called programmers over the decades: → Computer (1940s) → Coder (1950s) → Systems Analyst (1960s) → Programmer (1970s) → Software Developer (1980s) → Webmaster (1990s) → Mobile Developer (2000s) → Software Engineer (2010s) → AI Engineer (2020s) The tools change. The title changes. Still a growing need for people who can wrangle the latest technology. Don't know what we'll call them in the 2030s.

At CodeHS, we’ve built a full K–12 CS curriculum that’s easy to teach, even without a computer science background. Because coding literacy isn’t optional in the future, it’s essential. Let’s build that future together. Book a call with us: codehs.com/social/twitter/fu…

You don’t have to become a professional programmer. By 2030, there could be 100x more people building software, just like they write blogs or edit video today. This isn’t niche anymore. It’s mainstream literacy...
