If losing doesn’t bother you, winning probably doesn’t mean enough to you.
The best competitors take responsibility because they care deeply about the result, the team, and the standard.
Caring deeply comes with a cost but so does becoming great.

Mike Leach shares a must-listen postgame message on resilience, adversity, and failure.
"Nothing is really, really, really fun unless it's hard. Nothing is really fun unless it's hard."
"We've got to embrace that things are gonna be hard. We've got to embrace to be excited when things are hard."
Successful people don't fear obstacles - they embrace them.
"You gotta embrace to be excited about it being hard and playing extremely hard."
"Even if you get way up on somebody, you want to be as hard as you possibly can because you're pushing yourself. And all of a sudden you're making great plays, you're doing things that you've never done before."
Growth requires discomfort. You have to be willing to look bad before you get better.
Then he ended with one line:
"Embrace the fact that it's hard. Never hope that it's easy."
If you only chase what's easy, you'll never become great.
Embrace the hard because that is where growth, success, and character are built.

The Downfall of Craig Breslow: It Started on Day 1 with Chris Sale
To everyone defending the front office with "Sale was always hurt" and "you make the Crochet trade every time," stop. The front office needs to own this.
And I'm tired of hearing "we got Suarez and Contreras, why don't you talk about the good moves?" Roster building isn't linear. If they keep Sale, the Patrick Sandoval, Dustin May, Jordan Hicks, and Johan Oviedo moves never happen, and you can still sign Suarez. The Red Sox had the money.
Looking back, Sale was the butterfly effect. Craig Breslow inherited a team loaded with assets and top-tier prospects that could have been turned into top-tier talent, and he wasted it with negligent moves. Not just Bregman and Devers, but Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, and more. We need a front office that knows when to trade Carl Pavano for Pedro Martinez, not one that holds onto Pavano and trades Pedro for an injured jugs machine.
As for Crochet, he came here with Tommy John surgery already on his record. That's not something you overlook.
The Red Sox led the league in operating income in 2025. Telling me they couldn't afford Bregman or Devers, Sale, and Alonso is ridiculous. I'm fine with overpaying for players, but there are limits, and in the end you're measured by results. This team got worse than last year and paid more to do it.
The Braves pounced on the Sale trade immediately. They saw something the Red Sox didn't. There's a reason front offices get paid millions and we don't: they're accountable for their moves. They don't get to make excuses, and neither do the people defending them.

Often times it’s the little things that happen in a baseball game that make the difference!
Garrett Crochet strikes out Spencer Jones to start the inning but Wilson Contreras is once again late getting to the bag and takes the throw in the wrong position and Spencer Jones is called safe.
This seemingly small detail opened the door for the @Yankees and they go on to score 6 runs and put the game out of reach.
Details matter!

This is an example of advance scouting at its best. The Astros 3B over reacts to the early bunt show & is unable to get back to 3B to cover the steal.

Tom Brady explains why constantly telling someone it’s not your fault after failure may make them feel better for five seconds, but ultimately prevents them from improving
“It’s amazing to have the support from people to come in and go, ‘Hey man, it’s not your fault. It was the defense’s fault. Not your fault. It was the coach’s fault.’”
“The reality is maybe that helps for like five seconds, but in the end it doesn’t change any of the outcomes. If you really want to grow up, just take it all on yourself. Just say, ‘No, it’s my fault. I got to do better.’”
“What could I have done better that day? You immediately have to look at yourself in the mirror and aggressively attack yourself.”
“I’ve been around great entrepreneurs as well, and I would say that attitude where they put everything back on themselves makes them very successful in business too. Everyone work hard, have humility, have self-awareness, know you could do better. We all have the opportunity to be better.”

Joe Mazzulla on the importance of building a culture that doesn’t depend solely on the head coach.
“You don't want to be the sole person controlling the environment. You almost want it to run better when you're not around because that's a testament of the people.”
If your culture only works when you’re watching, then you've merely just created compliance.
The best environments are sustained by the people and shared ownership inside them.

Ten playoff spots are set. Two will be determined on the last day of the regular season Sunday.
Houston and Texas are tied atop the American League West at 80-81. Whoever wins the division will have the worst full-season record of a playoff team in MLB history. The Astros control their destiny, owning the tiebreaker. Houston is in Sacramento (Undecided vs. Brady Basso) at 3:05 p.m. ET. Texas is at Minnesota (MacKenzie Gore vs. Dean Kremer) starting five minutes later. The winner will be the No. 3 seed in the AL and host the sixth-seeded Chicago White Sox starting Tuesday in a three-game wild card series.
Philadelphia and Arizona are battling for the final National League wild card spot. Philadelphia owns a one-game lead, but Arizona has the tiebreaker. So, if the Phillies win, they’re in. If both teams lose, the Phillies are in. But if Philadelphia loses and Arizona wins, the Diamondbacks are in. Whoever it is will travel to third-seeded Atlanta for a wild card series. The Phillies host AL-best Tampa Bay at 3:05 and will send co-ace Zack Wheeler against All-Star Nick Martinez. The Diamondbacks face division rival — and top NL wild card — San Diego, with Michael Soroka opposing TBD at 3:10.
Here is the current playoff picture:

Hill sprints are a technique coach in disguise. The incline forces a forward lean and drives your knees up, so you can't over-stride or reach in front of your body. It builds a strong, piston-like push while the slower speed keeps you from cheating the mechanics. Free form work.

David Wright explains how to identify a selfish teammate
“To me, that’s what shows everybody what you’re made of. Anybody can smile and have a good time and enjoy the game when things are going their way and you’re having success.”
“But it takes a special person to be a good teammate. To be the first one to high-five the guy when they do something good, even though you’ve had three strikeouts that game.”
“What face do you put on in the locker room when you got four hits and the team lost compared to when you went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts and the team won? Happy-hit guy. Happy-hit guy is a term that we use to this day.”
“I think that differentiates between the true great teammates and the winners and the guys that are out there trying to do it for themselves. It’s just dealing with failures, dealing with adversity, and it’s a small sample size of what you’re going to get in real life.”

Reading balls in the dirt drill. The screen & tarp in front of the pitcher(Approximately 15’) forces the base runner to read the trajectory out of the hand. If you wait to see the ball hit the dirt, you are late. Part of the process is paying attention to pitch tendencies & know when it’s a high probability breaking ball/split situation.
