Kiri 250 HP is a good balance idea for a hero that has limited to no balance knobs that won’t make the game play loop worse. She’s the poster girl of hero design that falsely equates agency with value, and the state of discourse around her proves it. She needs a rework of her kit nearly as much of some of the most egregious old designs.
I empathize with people who hate her and are happy with her being gutter tier, but I also empathize with the balance team who is caught between the horns, so to speak. It is unreasonable to have a hero maintain a 40% win rate, even if you factor various statistical influencing factors. Both pick and win rates and every other statistical nuance should be considered, and most importantly how the game feels. Kiriko needs a change to reduce her agency but increase her impact in a way that doesn’t hurt the fun aspect that keeps the hero popular. I know Twitter isn’t a good spot for this discourse, but these kind of changes always provoke some pretty dumb responses from the Overwatch community, even from folks who should know better.
Reading the replies of this is a fun contradiction of “she’s not annoying, you’re just bad at the game” and “why did they change her hero identity when she’s supposed to be annoying?”

This game was not designed for a pro scene, which makes it all the more hilarious how much money Netease dumped into it. Total cognitive dissonance.
Not NetEase asking me to GamesCon after ghosting me for the Rivals creator discord back in the day. 💅🏼☕️👎
There’s a lot of understandable critiques of OW ranked right now- challenger being a particularly sticky subject. That being said, in no way is champ 1 even remotely 4.3k of old OW1 (as someone who almost hit 4.3k myself), and this is even if we ignore the playerbase improving over time.
After hitting Champ 1 on both 5v5 and 6v6 this season I can safely say rank has no meaning in this game anymore.
Hitting the highest rank in the game (Champ 1) is equivalent to probably around 4300 SR in OW1. That wouldn't have even put you in the Top 500 before role queue.
All these OW2 players would be slaughted back when good players used to play ranked. It's crazy to think even a rank 1 player in today's ranked probably wouldn't even be within the Top 500 players just a few years ago.
Adding heroes like Kiriko, Juno, Sojourn, Hazard, Ram and Mauga as well as making the ranked system based on your playtime rather than actual skill (copied from Marvel Rivals) has done irreparable damage to ranked.
Playing a 4.5-4.6 average lobby in OW1 felt like you were in an actual professional game fighting for your life. Now it feels like I'm playing a game of Marvel Rivals quickplay...
Do the replies to this prove that the OW community still can’t handle banter between pro players, or are the Twitter replies themselves banter? I can’t make up my mind.
GGs we end our EWC run in 2nd place, not much to say we gave it our all but they played really insane. Today they were just better, WP @zetadivision
As someone who’s got 10k+ hours coaching this game, this is 100% true. Cover, angles, and mechanics are often undervalued by the low/mid rank (and even high) population in comparison to more “moba” aspects of the game.
