For Snow College head coach Brad Kitchen, recruiting starts with more than what a player can do on the basketball court. It starts with finding high-character players who fit the culture the Badgers have spent years building. “We’ve really, really, really focused on recruiting kids that are consistent, that are resilient, that have learned how to sacrifice, that are grateful, right? That are fearless and that want to have a lot of fun playing the game of basketball.” Those standards show up in how Kitchen wants his players to respond every day — especially when things aren’t going their way. “We show up to work every day, right? We’re resilient. When we make mistakes, like we’re going to be the guys that sprint back on defense. We’re not going to give up.” That accountability extends beyond basketball. Kitchen says Snow places a major emphasis on academics so its players keep as many opportunities open as possible when it’s time to move on. “You close the door to all these high academic schools if you don’t handle your business in the classroom.” For Kitchen, the goal is to develop players college coaches can trust both on and off the floor — consistent, resilient, accountable and prepared for whatever comes next.
