Last week in our Journey to Becoming 3rd program, we studied the Fear of the Lord. It’s not a concept we hear discussed nearly enough in the modern Church, yet it is crucial to our growth in holiness—and, I believe, to our ability to truly be coached. At the end of the week, a fellow coach handed me a book and said, “You are going to love this book. It changed my life and helped me understand in a deeper way what it means to fear the Lord.” The book was The Awe of God by John Bevere, an author I honestly had never heard of. I was excited to start reading, but as I often do, I immediately went searching to see if I could find the author teaching on the topic as well. That search led me to the sermon below, which I’ve been listening to alongside the book, and it has been incredibly powerful for me. The video begins at the point where Bevere discusses five ways Christians manifest the Fear of God, but I would highly recommend listening to the entire message. One idea continues to challenge me: Without the Fear of God, we cannot truly be coachable. If I am unwilling to surrender what I want, what I think, or what I’m attached to, how can God truly coach me? And if I’m unwilling to be coached by Him, how can I expect to grow into the person He is calling me to become? So the question I’m sitting with is this: What am I attached to that is getting in the way of my growth? And maybe that’s a question worth asking for all of us—not only for our own lives, but for how we lead, love, coach, and compete. God First. Others Second. Me Third. @JohnBevere @b3rdathletics youtu.be/24d6y34tF9k?si=Uz-1…

“Natural talent is overrated. It is temporary and shallow. Give me grit and EXTRME work ethic. It eats natural talent for lunch, and always wins in the long run. Now, show me natural talent coupled with grit, and I’ll show you a leader and a champion.” John Patterson

PARENTS: Whether your child is starting, coming off the bench or barely playing, enjoy being a parent to an athlete. Be positive & always make it about the team. If done right, the process of parenting an athlete is rewarding for both your child & you. Youth sports are valuable.
