Dan Hurley on the two personas every head coach must master:
The Jockey 🏇, and the Corner Man. 🥊
In practice — you are the jockey. You push. You challenge. You demand more than they think they have. You stretch them past comfort so execution becomes inevitable.
On game night — you become the corner man. You steady. You simplify. You remind them who they are. Confidence replaces correction.
Preparation is where you build them.
Performance is where you believe in them.

The Raiders have coverage from The Athletic again! Give Sam a follow, and try not to run him off.
News: I’m joining @TheAthletic as a staff writer covering the Raiders.
Working for The Athletic was a career goal, and earning this opportunity is surreal. Thank you to all who helped make this dream a reality.
My first day is Monday. Raider Nation, I can’t wait to get to work!

6’7” freshman wing Xavier Wilson @xavier_wilson35 put his defensive ability on full display in the NJCAA National Tournament. With great court vision, switchability on defense, and a strong combination of size and athleticism, he continues to establish himself as one of the top all-around prospects in junior college basketball. He finished the game with 4 assists while going a perfect 4/4 from the free-throw line in a loss to Gulf Coast State College.

Trayvon Grant-Foster | Frank Phillips CC | G
In 28 games with Frank Phillips, he averaged 18.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per 40 minutes.
This season required adjustment. With a new coaching staff and system in year one, Trayvon embraced a team-first role — sacrificing touches and shifting responsibilities to help the team stay competitive and stable through transition.
What shouldn’t be overlooked is the talent level. Trayvon has the tools and ability that project well beyond the situation this season, with a skill set and athletic profile that many evaluators believe translates to the Division I level when given the right opportunity and role.
Instead of focusing on numbers, he focused on leadership, defense, and doing what the team needed — the kind of maturity coaches value in building winning programs.
Off the court, Trayvon is on pace to graduate and earn his Associate’s Degree, showing the same discipline academically as he does on the floor.
High-level talent. Team-first mentality. Mature approach.
Programs looking for a guard who can impact winning while bringing culture and upside should take a serious look.

You don't need a starring role.
You need to star in your role.
"The league is filled with so much talent.
You've gotta play a role.

Proud of you, Walzel.
The Jayhawk Conference & Pratt CC are getting a good one in @ZelEvans11. A First Team All-Freshman and First Team All-Conference guard at Cabrillo CC last season, Walzel battled through a torn ACL that sidelined him this year.
The medical RS-SO point guard will be one to watch for 4-year programs in the 26–27 cycle. True PG whose best traits are his heart, toughness, and high IQ. @coachkennyeddy @danielsiehndel @CoachRC816 @BradWinton @JUCOShowcase @JucoRecruiting @KSJUCOHoops @JUCOroundup @JucoHoopScoop

Zion Young | 6’4 Guard | Lamar State–Port Arthur
Zion Young continues to separate himself as the most elite perimeter shooter in junior college basketball. On sophomore night vs Angelina CC, the lefty guard poured in 17 points, knocking down 5/9 from three and going a perfect 2/2 from the line.
Through 29 games this season, Young is shooting 44% from three on 5.2 attempts per game — an elite combination of efficiency and volume that translates directly to the Division I level.
What stands out is the shot-making versatility: deep range, quick and repeatable mechanics, and the confidence to stretch defenses well beyond the arc. His shooting gravity forces defensive adjustments the moment he steps across half court.
With his 6’4 frame and high-level shooting profile, Young projects as a plug-and-play floor spacer at the Division I level, capable of stepping into a rotation and immediately impacting offensive spacing and perimeter scoring.

JUCO sniper Zion Young is shooting the cover off the basketball — nearly 46% from three this season in one of the toughest conferences in junior college basketball. That level of efficiency from the perimeter puts him in the conversation as the premier shooter in college basketball this year.
Deep range. Compact, repeatable mechanics. A jumper as smooth as church music. Confident, rhythmic shot-maker who can heat up in a hurry and completely shift defensive coverages.
Left-handed guard whose release, range, and game stylistically resemble a lefty Damian Lillard. Real shooting gravity that forces adjustments the moment he crosses half court. @zionyoungg @CoachRC816 @danielsiehndel
