In remembrance of my brother Chris Costello, I try to approach every day with the mantra of “Care More & Try Harder.” When you realize that life grants you the privilege of doing that every day, your impact becomes greater #GoDeacs🎩
THIS is the energy you need as an Assistant Coach
Can never be an energy vampire in that role… there’s no time to do anything but get better
Love it

Great having two local legends in the building working at our facility today. Caleb and Cody Martin are two of the most elite workers and human beings I’ve ever had the honor to coach. So much love for these guys. Also amazing seeing my very good friend, Dr. Tyler Lesher. One of the best in the business #GoDeacs

Joe Mazzulla refuses to call himself a championship head coach, because he doesn’t want his identity to be attached to outcomes
“I’m not a championship head coach. I’m just a guy that won a championship with a bunch of other people. It comes back to the identity piece. You start walking around saying… Oh, I’m a championship head coach.’ There’s coaches who are better than I am who may have never even gotten to the playoffs. You can’t start looking at success because of that.”
“In your wording is the most important thing. I’m just a guy that won a championship with a group of people. We did it together. My identity cannot be wrapped up in that…Or else, you’re just a failure for the rest of your life because you may only get one.”
“If you coach for 20 and you go one out of 20… Did you have one successful year and 19 unsuccessful ones? What does that look like? The first test is being very specific about the story you tell yourself and the words that you use.”
“Knowing that, I didn’t do anything. There’s a group of us that did this. And then it’s over. When you are fortunate enough to win… It tests your willpower. How are we going after more? After the first one, you’re kind of like in purgatory.”
“You now have a sense of what it’s like… But you might not get back. It may take one year. It may take 10. You just don’t know.”
“It tests… Are you in it for the right reasons? Because it may never come back around. But you still got to show up every day.”

July 9th - July 12th, 2026: The Haitian Men’s National Team competed in its first Americup Qualifier in 8 years. Our program finished 3 and 1 in pool play. These three victories over the countries of Grenada, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, and The Cayman Islands marked the first ever official FIBA wins in the history of Haiti’s Basketball Federation. We made HISTORY.
The depth of my appreciation for the responsibility to serve Haiti as Head Coach of its Men’s National Team is truly indescribable. This is just the beginning 🇭🇹🏁

Leading the way for a history-making moment 🇭🇹🎩
Let’s go @CoachNickyFree!
Can’t describe how special it truly is to be a part of the first official win in the 45 year history of Haiti’s Basketball Federation. 8 years removed from competition, we found a way to keep this train moving. Can’t wait to keep building this program. The future of basketball in Haiti is bright 🇭🇹
My guy, Pete. Let’s keep building 🇭🇹🙏🏻
