Joe Thomas went from coaching Buena to Casa Grande, where he will work with former Arizona cornerback great Randy Robbins, the Cougars’ athletic director. Thomas turned around Buena’s program from 0-10 seasons to annual playoff berths. Expect the success to continue at Casa Grande.

Amphi first-year coach Domineik Banks’ team will try to make a late push toward the playoffs after the 49-36 win over Douglas in the MLK Classic game at McKale. The Panthers are 8-12 overall and 1-1 the 4A Gila. They have seven games left in the regular season.

Two of the top seniors in Southern Arizona - Amphi’s Monica Verrett and Kayla Tuakalau - led the Panthers to a 49-36 win over Douglas in the MLK Classic game at McKale. Verrett had 16 points and Tuakalau 13. They played at McKale in the MLK Classic as freshmen and made a return visit in their last high school season. That’s special.
