A head coach who answers your emails personally is telling you something about the culture of that program. Pay attention to that.

Queens HC Grant Leonard on why the Royals culture stood out through the D2 to D1 transition, and how ultimately the program powers on "The character of the players. A championship program, you can win games with talented kids but championships are won with character. Queens is a student centered place, they get an individualized experience. The players serve the community and build it through basketball. It's the great kids, good kids want to go to Queens. When things get hard, we fight and that's why we win."

Want to know what Wyoming coach Sundance Wicks thinks about the national discussion about Miami (OH)'s strength of schedule? “There’s a lot of idiots out there that have no idea how scheduling works, and they’re all over Twitter,” Wicks said. “(They’re like), ‘Well, why don’t you guys go do two-for-ones? Why don’t you just not take the buy-game money and go over to their place?’ Why would you go play a game for free when they’re not returning it back to you? None of this stuff makes sense. "For people out there to sit there and say, ‘Oh, it doesn’t seem that hard. I don’t understand (why it’s so hard to schedule high-major teams).’ Yes, you do. Everybody knows why. "As coaches, we’re paranoid. We’re paranoid to the nth degree that you scheduled the wrong team. If you buy the wrong team and you lose, you’re gonna get a @JonRothstein Tweet, ‘The epitome of brutality.’ You don’t ever want to be on those, but that stuff happens. Nobody wants to schedule Miami (Ohio), because they have a high level of retention. “... I’m telling you, man. Scheduling is hard, because nobody wants a blemish on their resume versus a mid-major or a low-major. Not one team. “... It takes a real confident, secure coach in his contract to be able to schedule (low- or mid-majors), and most of these guys nowadays with the way NIL is going, I don’t think anybody’s secure in their contract because you’re seeing these exorbitant buyouts, and they’re still getting rid of coaches, because they’re expecting you to win if you have enough money to win. They’re expecting you to win, so if they’re giving you enough money and expecting you to win, well, why would you take the risk as a high-major? Why would you take that risk? “Why do we get so upset when a team is 30-0? I don’t understand why people get upset about that or why Bruce Pearl is talking (down on Miami, Ohio). Why are we not celebrating the fact that there’s a low-major team or a one-bid league team that is 30-0 right now and being like, ‘That team’s body of work is awesome, regardless of who they played?’ "It’s so hard, no matter who you play, to win that many games in a row. So, I don’t know why we’re not sitting here talking about this and celebrating this versus having the discussion of why nobody will schedule anybody. “If nobody will schedule you and teams end up winning all these games, you should just get a pass, because you know what? You beat the system. Everybody said no, and you still beat everybody.”

This is one of the best things I have ever read!!! Pops was right about you Mike. One of a kind. @CoachTomlin
Ryan Shazier didn’t just react to Mike Tomlin leaving — he felt it. And when he opened up about what Tomlin meant to him, #SteelersNation heard every word.

Replying to @GoodmanHoops
Lawyers are contacting players with no eligibility and having them get in the portal. They are convincing them that if a college wants them bad enough, the college will pay for the lawyer to sue the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility.

Been really struggling to process this news about Amir. I know with God’s grace I will sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow and my life and this sport will continue to move on. But all evening I’ve been thinking about the dudes who have to work for buttholes, those who sacrificed their families, those who moved all over the country and barely been able to watch their children grow or their wives grow grey hairs. Seeing friends and “family” endure the ups and downs of the business has taught me so much. End of the day just be a good person, don’t walk around carrying hate, and understand our time in both this business and on earth is temporary. But that’s ok. Just live life to the fullest while you are here and be a good person!
