Shoutout to all my high school coaches trying to do things the right way! Because people often only see Friday nights. They see the lights, the scoreboard, the wins, the losses, and the game itself. What they don’t see are the countless hours behind the scenes. The fundraising meetings. The offseason planning. The weight room supervision. The practice scripts. The game plans. The film breakdown. The staff meetings. The player meetings. The parent conversations. The community service projects. The social media posts. The equipment orders. The transportation logistics. The paperwork. The recruiting calls. The leadership development. The constant problem-solving. What they don’t see is that most coaches are doing all of this while working a full-time job with full time responsibilities. Then they go home and try to be a good husband, a good wife, a good mom, a good dad, a good son, a good daughter, and be present for the people who matter most. The REALITY of it is that coaching done the RIGHT way is not a hobby. It’s a calling. It’s early mornings, late nights, weekends, summers, and countless sacrifices made by coaches AND their families who rarely receive recognition for what they give. The best high school coaches aren’t just teaching football, basketball, baseball, soccer, or any other sport. They’re building young men and women, strengthening communities, creating opportunities, and leaving lasting impacts that extend far beyond the scoreboard. So the next time you see a coach on Friday night, remember: the game is the smallest part of the job. The real work happens in the thousands of unseen moments that nobody ever applauds. And yet, coaches keep showing up because they believe the investment is worth it. For the kids. For the school. For the community. That’s coaching done the right way.
