Rick Pitino needs to be at the top of any all-time list ranking current college basketball coaches.
A reminder of what he inherited — and what those same 6 programs looked like in Year 2:
Boston U: 10-15 → 21-9
Providence: 11-20 → 25-9
Kentucky: 13-19 → 22-6
Louisville: 12-19 → 25-7
Iona: 12-17 → 25-8
St. John’s: 18-15 → 31-5
Combined before Pitino: 76-105 (.420)
Combined in Year 2: 149-44 (.772)
Six programs. Different eras. Same turnaround.

Good for Pat Kelsey for saying this in court directly to the NCAA.
“Tell me the rules and I’ll follow them. But no one does. And then every time something happens, a lawsuit happens, so nobody knows [the rules].”

Thank you @Shoot360LOU for allowing me to share a bit of my journey and what basketball truly means to me.

Some coaches don’t realize that they’re the problem. A player loses their love for the game, starts thinking about quitting. Then a new coach, a new culture & the spark returns. They didn’t change, but their environment did. Coaches, you can be the reason they quit or love again.

Toughness is doing the next right thing
I'm super impressed with the work ethic and attitudes of our guys. But there is something I've not seen in my long tenure. Donnie Freeman had a heartbreaking injury blowing out his achilles, yet every day on a scooter or boot he's early to film and practice, rooting his teammates on. Special young man that will succeed big in life!

Every year the preseason rankings come out and every year we seem to have something to prove. 👀
That’s fine with us.
Respect is earned between the lines.
Keep overlooking us.
We’ll handle the rest. ⚪️⚔️🔵
See you soon💙

My conversation with Jeff wasn’t just about how his staff gets better. It was about how we all get better — coaches, admin, everyone involved in supporting our football program. When results don’t meet expectations, everybody needs to look in the mirror - especially the leaders!
