went on the BBC podcast to talk about itemization and AI in league of legends
here are some topics we discussed:
- AI in games (OpenAI Five, AlphaGo)
- win rate data vs win probability added
- itemization through feeling vs theory vs data
if these sound interesting, go listen!
The game is evolving rapidly. Playing champions lacking mobility in D2+ is getting harder every year. The new 'Evergreen' high elo Mid champs from now on will nearly always have side laning power/maneuverability.
Aurora is a classic example of a NEW age mid laner.
I'm genuinely concerned by how many master+ players are actually wanting duo queue back. I don't want to see a pro botlane duo vs. my autofill support.

Studies on the role of background music for sake of learning and attention show varied results but collectively show that if your goal is focus and information retention then working in silence > purely instrumental music > music w/lyrics… BUT that listening to music during brief (5-20min) breaks between cognitive tasks (done in silence) is best.

OCE solo queue is legitimately decent quality atm. If all the high elo community/pro's played all season, this is what it could be like for the entirety of the season. There is no point of in-houses if people actually PLAY solo queue.
Coaching wrapped up for 2022.
2000 individual reviews done this year in the MLA. Thanks for another great year of learning.
Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New years! 🎅
Feels good to lock in my 9th challenger season in a row. Definitely a lot to take away from this season. Learnt a lot about myself as a solo queue player and person.

Went on Broken by Concept with some fellow OCE'rs talking about balance, design, why we can't just do "obvious balance changes" sometimes (even if we want to). Curtis and Nathan espouse great philosophies on healthy relationships with the game and soloq
