At the end of the day, you have to give credit to Coach Tony Sanchez and offensive coordinator David Yost for trusting Adam Damante to take the reins as QB1 on just five days’ rest between games. There wasn’t much practice time to make that transition, and while there were some issues with the quarterback-center exchange, the offense was otherwise efficient enough to get the job done.
More importantly, the defense was outstanding. The Aggies did enough offensively and were dominant enough defensively to come away with a win over a Western Kentucky team that, for whatever reason, always seems to make Aggie fans nervous. #AggieUp
Aggies win it 34-13
New Mexico State improves to 2-3 on the season and evens the all-time series with Western Kentucky at 2-2.
Both teams finished with 346 total yards, but the Aggies dominated on the ground, rushing for 200 yards on 34 carries (5.9 YPC) while holding WKU to just 32 yards on 30 carries (1.1 YPC).
James Jones: 20 carries, 155 yards, TD
Adam Damante: 15-of-26, 146 yards, TD
Josiah Thomas: 4 catches, 60 yards
WKU QB Rodney Tisdale Jr. threw for 314 yards but was held without a passing touchdown.
The Aggies now get a short turnaround before another midweek C-USA game, playing Florida International on Wednesday night in the 305 at Pitbull Stadium.
¡Dale!
