Some pretty significant changes could be coming to Utah State basketball and football as USU prepares for its new era in the Pac-12. usu.edu/facilities/files/pla… For basketball, the North District Master Plan points toward a major renovation of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum rather than replacing it. Concepts show the arena potentially growing to around 11,300 seats, with new premium seating, suites, improved concourses, accessibility, restrooms and other modern amenities. Most importantly, the plan still preserves roughly 4,000 student seats. It feels like USU wants to modernize the Spectrum without losing what makes it one of the best home-court environments in college basketball. They also list the Sppectrum upgrades as "urgent" and the first listed in the "phase 1" portion of this proposed idea. Meaning that the Spectrum could be getting a face lift rather quickly. Football appears to be getting a broader overhaul around Maverik Stadium. The plan emphasizes new and improved practice facilities, athlete and football operations spaces, along with continued upgrades to the stadium’s east side, fan circulation, concessions, accessibility and game-day experience. It doesn’t necessarily mean a massive seating expansion is happening tomorrow, but the master plan appears to leave room for Maverik Stadium to continue growing in the future. Not every concept in a master plan is guaranteed to be built exactly as shown, but the direction is pretty clear: USU is beginning to build its basketball and football facilities toward a Pac-12 standard.
