High School sports coaches if you have rough 1st year just hang in there and build for the future. I had 7 kids this year in track and field. Focus on the kids you have and grow. The numbers will grow. The future is always bright. #adaptandovercome

Congratulations to our regional qualifiers of Tobi and Abby. They got to pie @coachclarktf in the face for making it to regionals. Also our senior athletes of Ally and Connor ran their final race at New Prairie. They also pied Coach Clark in the face for final farewell.

Mack Brown shares the winning habits that he tried to instill in all of his teams. He calls them the 3 C's.
1. Complacency
"Complacency is a disease and it's really hard to fight that disease for all of us."
Success hinges on doing the work, while complacency lacks enthusiasm and is full of indifference.
"Every day that you get up, if you don't have an edge and complacency sets in, somebody's gonna do better than you. 'Cause somebody's gonna have that edge and they're after you."
2. Consistency
"Consistency is a gift, but it's so hard to do. 'Cause if you're complacent, you can't be consistent."
You can't show up sometimes and expect to win.
3. Confidence
"If you don't have confidence in this world, you get eaten up."
Then he connected it to parenting:
"We gotta be careful that we don't baby our kids so much and cover them up and take care of them that they realize they've never done anything themselves 'cause you did it for them."
Confidence isn't given. It's built through your preparation and what you do.
Then he tied it all together:
"Complacency kills. Confidence is a powerful thing. And consistency with that confidence is why you win."
Your success comes from doing the work, doing it consistently, and working through the adversity.

Simple principles.
Timeless wisdom.

Good stuff below.
The “Disease of ME” kills teams.
- ME > WE
- Stats > Sacrifice
- Ego > Effort
Legendary coach Pat Riley coined the phrase, and it’s still one of the biggest threats to team culture.
Here’s how to spot it (and stop it):
Jimmy Johnson explains the "disease of me" and why success can be the downfall of any team or company
“The downfall of every great company… Country… Team… Whatever… Everybody in the organization is going to say… ‘What about me?’”
“‘I didn’t get enough praise.’ ‘I didn’t get enough accolades.’”
“Every secretary is going to want a raise.”
“Every scout is going to want a raise.”
“Every player is going to want a new contract.”
“That’s what you’re going to have to deal with.”
“The other thing you’ve got to deal with is human nature when you have success. People get to where they don’t work quite as hard. They get pretty comfortable with themselves.”
“It’s no fun for the guy at the top that is demanding. That has to filter down. From you… To the assistant coaches… To the star… To the secretary.”
“That’s why it’s so difficult for teams to stay at the top.”
“If they are aware of the problems, it’s a little easier to overcome. But that doesn’t eliminate them. Your goal is to be better than you were the year before.”
“All I ask from you is all you have. You give me everything you’ve got… I’ll never ask for more.”

LEADERSHIP IS LONELY
"If you are going to be a leader, you’re not going to please everybody. You have to hold people accountable. Even if you have that moment of being uncomfortable." (Kobe Bryant)

One of John Wooden’s greatest lessons:
Talent may win games. But character determines how you handle success, adversity, and teammates.
Character always matters.

Culture isn’t a poster. It’s these 8 things:
1. What you tolerate
2. What you celebrate
3. Wants gets said in the locker room
4. Who gets held accountable
5. What gets rewarded
6. What happens after a win
7. What happens after a loss
8. What you repeat every single day

Michael Jordan warned us:
"If you accept the expectations of others, especially negative ones…you never will change the outcome."
But what if those expectations are your own?
What if the loudest critic is in your head?

Failure is part of life.
You won’t avoid it.
You won’t outwork it.
You won’t outsmart it.
What separates successful people isn’t avoiding it.
It’s refusing to let failure define you.

Unhealthy relationship with running 🏃♂️
• Running is punishment to lose weight.
• Every run needs to feel hard and productive. Exhausted = good.
• Every run needs to be a “good pace.” There’s no benefit to slowing down or walking.
Healthy relationship with running 🏃
• Running is an enjoyable way to move your body, elevate your heart rate, and improve your health.
• It’s fun to run hard occasionally. It’s also enjoyable to run easy, chat with friends, explore new routes, and finish feeling better than when you started.
• Easy pace doesn’t matter. It’s the result of running at an appropriate effort for that day. Pace matters more during workouts when you’re trying to measure progress.
