High school athletics is fascinating because the same parent who demands accountability from coaches will explain why their child shouldn't have consequences for missing three practices.
Accountability is apparently a one-way street.

In Loving Memory of Grace Nolan.
Grace was a light to all around her. She demonstrated amazing perseverance and made a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Her dedication to serving others and passion for helping people reflected the remarkable person she was.
I haven’t posted or even finished making a flyer for Indoor yet cause my son is coming by the 4th. I haven’t had the time or energy to truly think about anything else

Professionally, sometimes you have to let people know that you aren’t to be played with.
Glad my parents taught me to stand on what I believe and don’t let anyone railroad me
One of the coolest things happened yesterday. I’m a track nerd, so is most of my family apparently. Talked to me cousin Charles from Denver (lives in St. Croix) and we talked or about an hour about track. He grew up and was good friends with THEE Caryl Smith-Gilbert!!!

In my opinion, if your school bus has the only 3 kids who’s parents didn’t come to the game/meet on the return trip home… you have a culture problem.
Ride the bus home with your team.
Laugh with your friends and enjoy the time together, win or lose.
Help coaches put equipment away.
Say good bye and thank you.

HS Coaches: Don't kid yourself - college coaches almost exclusively look at track times.
The junior year of track is crucial (unless you have a top 25 soph athlete).
Don't "train through" meets.
Get them to indoor meets.
Have a plan Jan 1.
Replying to @coachjayjohnson
Have heard college distance coaches at clinics say this is why they sometimes look to 1600 and 3200 times on the track too - takes out all the variables except for weather conditions.
The next big 3 out of Ypsilanti Community HS T&F Program. Seniors Jordan Hickenbottom, Nesaias Paige, and Camari Vawters at the Lawrence Tech Track & Field Camp. Thank you to Coach Wilks for having them and giving excellent insight and feedback on their performances.

Believe in yourself before anyone else does. Be delusional about it. Successful people in any industry have incredible self-belief that they WILL accomplish what they set out to do. It’s not a sports thing it truly is a life thing

Track Coaches, you should be more concerned with the length of time your athletes are wearing crocs and slides than when you’re putting on spikes for the first time of the season.

Thank you so much erika long for allowing me to be a part of this TREMENDOUSLY AMAZING, INSPIRING, UPLIFTING, and MOMENTOUS journey.
