2028 Jamari Rogers has been beating his man from the point of attack since the event started. Quick-twitch lead guard who can knock down 3’s if open, but has buttered his bread breaking his man down off the dribble, collapsing the defense & making the right reads every time.

Dan Hurley says coaches should be a jockey in practice and a corner man during games “I understand the two different roles I’ve got to play for the players in preparation. In practices, I’ve got to push for game-like reps so that on game night they can execute.” “On game night, I go to boxing trainer in the corner with the fighter, pumping them up, building up their confidence.” “You’ve got this practice persona where you push for the preparation, and then on game night you become that person that’s trying to convince them throughout the game that they can do anything.” “Any anger you see on game night for me is always at the referees. They know I love them. I invested time in them, so they let me do my job.”

The DMV basketball community has lost one of its all-time greats. Michael Sweetney was an absolute force at Oxon Hill, establishing himself as one of the best players to ever come out of the DMV. He went on to become a star at Georgetown, earning All-Big East honors and developing into one of the most dominant big men in college basketball. Sweetney was selected 9th overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and spent four seasons in the NBA. Long before all of that, though, he was a DMV legend. Here is a link to one of the DMV's most memorable games: 1998 5-overtime state championship Oxon hill vs Gaithersburg featuring Sweetney as a Sophomore. youtu.be/BCNBjyV1Nec?is=7gLI… Rest in peace, Michael Sweetney. 🙏

Listen man, I’m all for moves that benefit a kid’s future. I won’t nitpick about how far in advance you should let the current coach know you’re leaving even though I think it’s right to notify them as soon as possible….but parents/guardians if you aren’t having the kid have the conversation in person, at least make them call & TALK. I get it, it can be tough conversations, but these are kids approaching adulthood. They’re going to have to do it at some point. Getting agents in 8th/9th grade but not making them pick up the phone & discuss a move after a coach dedicated/sacrificed his time on recruiting or coaching them is…something.

Not as concerned with the whole tit for tat mindset. I’m just thinking more as a parent, have your kids operate at a higher expectation/standard. Call me crazy, but I think it helps in the long run. My mother made me have tough conversations & yeah they sucked in the moment, but I never realized how much they helped me grow. They eventually get easier because as you said the game is the game. Still doesn’t mean you can’t operate with a sense of humility. Especially if these coaches worked to get you scholarship money to attend their school. Can agree to disagree, but at the HS level, this is my approach.
Nope, kids you don't owe these coaches nothing at all. They'll leave without letting you know and you can do the same. The game is the game I refuse to think the kids or parents are wrong for doing the same thing coaches been doing for ages. If it's for your future, DO YOU.
