Since platformers are just a dumb idea for a solo dev (unless you are a magician) I wanted to share what I have here before I stop working on this lol

You people paint learning UE or Unity or blender as some sort of Herculean task no mortal can overcome. Which only shows you never even bothered to try.

This would honestly be a good thing. I would even donate to devs who I know are genuinely talented, so they could upload their games
Do you think @Steam raising the game submission fee to $1,000 per game while reducing its revenue cut to 10% would be the best way to combat the flood of AI generated low effort games being released on Steam?

Even if I don't use ai, even if I never fucking touch it, I still have to live in its secondhand smoke and it pisses me off so fucking bad

People talk shit about blueprints in unreal, but using blueprints is an actual skill for which you need a brain, and can't just ask some LLM to write your whole logic for you....

Why is it that actual human jobs like baker, florist, teacher, and childcare worker barely pay a livable wage, while fake jobs like AI specialist bootlicker, marketing campaign parasite, and synergy consultant are pulling six figures?

“Much of the room wants it to be 2016 again.” Yes, Tim, because 2016 was one of the last great years of traditional AAA gaming. Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, DOOM, Dark Souls 3, Dishonored 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, XCOM 2, and Uncharted 4 all came out that year Back then, games were still largely products first, services second. Publishers competed to sell you a great game, not monetize every waking hour of your life with battle passes, rotating storefronts, daily chores, and an endless treadmill of artificial engagement Games were allowed to have their own identities. Titanfall 2 didn’t need to be Fortnite. Battlefield didn’t need to be an extraction shooter. DOOM didn’t need a five-year seasonal roadmap. They were designed around distinct gameplay experiences rather than whatever monetization model executives like you are salivating over And the technology was already good enough to deliver incredible visuals without development budgets spiraling into the hundreds of millions. Games could be ambitious without needing to become permanent revenue-generating platforms to justify their existence Now we have an industry spending more money, taking longer, and producing fewer AAA games, while desperately chasing the same handful of commercially successful formulas. We’ve reached diminishing returns in graphical fidelity while sacrificing experimentation and creative diversity And here comes Tim Sweeney, the man who ruined gaming with one of the biggest live-service platforms, lecturing people about how they need to move on from 2016 People aren’t asking you to bring back 2016’s technology, Tim. They’re asking for an industry that remembers how to make art instead of endless AI generated engagement slop The fact that someone in your position apparently can’t tell the difference is a pretty good illustration of how we ended up here

Much of the room wants it to be 2016 again, but it's not. Our job, as the provider of tools and technology to much of the industry, is to design for the present that is and the future that will soon be. Personally I'm optimisic about it and see it as empowering for creators.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Making things the “old fashioned way” aka actually making them is making me feel like I’m riding a horse on the highway. Legit I can’t get myself to even open blender after seeing this shit. Sooner or later the only people left appreciating art will be other gamedevs 🫠🔫

I’m extremely anti ai and sadly most people I know outside of the gamedev space do not share that sentiment. Honestly it just makes me sad, but I feel like people like me will just be seen as outcasts in the future.
