In December 1993, Trump signed a mortgage for a "Bermuda style" Palm Beach home, pledging it as his principal residence. Seven weeks later, he signed ANOTHER mortgage for a neighboring seven-bedroom mansion, again declaring it his primary residence. Records show Trump never lived in either home. Both properties were immediately rented out as investment properties — the exact scenario his administration has branded criminal fraud. His own longtime rental agent, Shirley Wyner, confirmed it bluntly: "They were rentals from the beginning. President Trump never lived there." Compare this to Trump's actual attack on Lisa Cook, whom he's trying to fire over nearly identical mortgage timing. In his letter attacking Cook, Trump wrote: "It is inconceivable that you were not aware of your first commitment when making the second." Legal expert Kathleen Engel put it perfectly: "Given Trump's position on situations like this, he's going to either need to fire himself or refer himself to the Department of Justice." Even more damning: Trump's Justice Department indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James for claiming a SECOND home as her primary residence. Trump's Florida scheme is arguably more brazen — he claimed BOTH properties as primary residences simultaneously, something even mortgage law experts say exceeds the low bar his own administration has set for prosecution. When ProPublica asked Trump directly about the parallel, he hung up on the reporter. The White House's response was pure deflection, insisting "there was no defraudation" simply because the same lender issued both loans — ignoring that intent, not lender identity, is what actually determines fraud. This is the same pattern playing out with Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, and others: Trump weaponizing mortgage technicalities against political enemies, while conveniently exempting himself and his own Cabinet from identical scrutiny.
