The 2024 Cheshire East Council annual report by the Director of Public Health titled ‘the commercial determinants of health’ stated that 5 industries are responsible for more than half of all global deaths. The 5 industries are food, tobacco, alcohol, gambling and fossil fuel
Ultra Processed Food, and the system that produces it, has overtaken tobacco in terms of health and economic harms, and is also the leading cause of plastic pollution, loss of biodiversity and deforestation, and the second leading cause of emissions.

This morning I have been at the Nantwich civic service. This afternoon I will be at the Co-op Wind Band concert at 3pm in St Mary’s Church Hall in Sandbach
At the Cheshire East Council meeting today one speaker opposing the Peak Cluster pipeline said “there is no clear evidence that CO2 is responsible for climate change” and claimed that climate change is due to water vapour in the atmosphere. The disinformation is worrying
Cllr David Jefferay has announced that weekly food waste collections will start in Cheshire East in February 2027. The Christmas period always brings challenges with holidays and extra waste. Implementing changes in February gives time to resolve current issues with staffing.
The One World celebration is a lovely annual event at the civic centre in Alsager - on today until 12.30 - with stalls showcasing food from the different countries represented in #Alsager

As Bank of England governor, Carney gently but firmly spelled out the economic consequences of Brexit, but the mob just jeered. The result was obvious. Now, as Canadian PM, he is pursuing the logic of his argument. And the result will be as obvious.
👍🚨 Listen to Mark Carney dismantle the central Brexit myth!
Canada 🇨🇦 is deepening its economic, defence, energy, industrial and research alliance with Europe because it will make both sides:
“More sovereign, more resilient, more independent, as well as more prosperous.”
Isolation is vulnerability.
Sovereignty comes from trusted alliances, shared capabilities, alternative markets and the bargaining power to resist coercion.
Canada has learnt that lesson from Trump.
Brexit Britain still refuses to learn it.

📢New @UNHumanRights report: Destruction of Palestinian refugee camps in northern West Bank
Between Dec 2024 and Jan 2026, Israel’s “Operation Iron Wall” expelled the entire populations of Jenin, Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, killed 102 Palestinians, including 21 children, and largely destroyed the emptied camps, making them uninhabitable.
The Operation raises concerns of crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing, and appears aimed at entrenching the Israeli occupation and undermining the viability of a Palestinian state.
