For my Los Angeles Clippers followers
This has been a very difficult time for everybody associated with the Clippers, and for that, I have sincere regrets. I want to apologize to our fans, employees, and my fellow NBA team owners for the distraction and distress this matter has caused, for which I accept responsibility as principal owner.
We are committing to put this chapter behind us. We have communicated to the NBA that we are complying with the penalties assessed by the league, have paid the fine, and are moving forward. While there are still disagreements concerning the findings in the report, this is not where I want to focus. Team owners should support, not distract.
The challenges ahead of us are significant, but so is our resolve. We will continue to build our team and invest in our community. The confidence of our fans is our priority. With our talented roster, outstanding staff and clear vision, I am certain that we will compete at the highest level and be an organization our fans can be proud of.

The $30 million fine levied against the Clippers for violating salary cap circumvention rules is nearly 10x larger than the next highest fine against a team in NBA history, when the Minnesota Timberwolves were fined $3.5 million for Joe Smith's under-the-table contract.

BREAKING: The NBA has ruled on the Los Angeles Clippers in for salary cap circumvention investigations on Kawhi Leonard after yearlong probe -- stripping the franchise of 5 first-round picks, issuing a $30 million fine to owner Steve Ballmer and suspensions for Ballmer, Lawrence Frank and Gillian Zucker, sources tell ESPN.
Kawhi Leonard will have to pay $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits by the Clippers for his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. No contract void or suspension for Leonard. And Robertson -- who was fired by Leonard in June -- is being banned by the NBA from all business dealings.

NEWS: The NBA investigation into whether the LA Clippers circumvented the salary cap to pay Kawhi Leonard could drag into 2027 if the parties don’t agree on the findings or any proposed settlement that involves punishing the team, sources tell ESPN. espn.com/nba/story/_/id/4948…

Adam Silver said his timeline for a ruling on the Clippers/Aspiration is “this summer.” Adds that the NBA did not pause the Kawhi trade. The two sides agreed to hold off until the investigation wraps.

The NBA's Aspiration x Kawhi Leonard investigation has grown in scope.
The company discussed using Leonard in a marketing campaign, according to multiple former employees who spoke with The Athletic.
Those efforts went so far as to include mockups depicting Leonard as an offshoot of Marvel's Groot, tying into Aspiration's promise to plant trees to offset customers' carbon footprints.
After weeks of trying to make the Marvel concept work and brainstorming other ideas, the creative team was told to stop.
"Stop thinking about Kawhi," one former employee recalled being told. "This feels like a dead end."

Developing: The Los Angeles Clippers-Toronto Raptors trade centered on Kawhi Leonard will not be complete until the NBA investigation into the Clippers is over. Statement from the Clippers to ESPN:
For the past 10 months, our organization has fully cooperated with an NBA investigation, participating in dozens of interviews, providing tens of thousands of documents, and facilitating access to our staff. While the process has been challenging, we have remained committed to transparency.
On June 30, we reached an agreement in principle to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors. We have since been informed that the trade can only be finalized if the Raptors' ownership group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi’s contract that could theoretically result from the ongoing investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and we expect the trade to be finalized following its conclusion.
At the heart of this investigation are Joe Sanberg and Aspiration. We did not funnel money to Kawhi Leonard through Aspiration. Like many sophisticated investors, financial institutions, and business partners, we were victims of a fraud initiated by Sanberg, who has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
We recognize the uncertainty this has created and the impact it has had on our team, our fans, the Raptors organization, their fans, and the players whose futures remain affected while this process continues.
We remain confident that, when the facts are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, the NBA will confirm exactly what we have said from the beginning: We have not done what we are accused of doing.

There is now stronger belief that Kawhi Leonard could be suspended for part of next season due to the Clippers’ Aspiration cap circumvention case.
The NBA has been investigating Leonard and the Clippers for the past 10 months, with an update expected to finally occur next week.
