Scientists have made a white paint that can make surfaces as much as eight degrees Fahrenheit cooler than air temperatures at midday, and up to 19 degrees cooler at night, reducing inside temperatures and cutting air-conditioning needs by as much as 40%.

After 100s of hours of research (including reading 8 books on sea level rise), I feel like I have a good grasp of the accelerating U.S. flood risk from climate change. Part 1 of my 3-part series is up; part 2 is Friday; Part 3 (the best one!) is Monday. yaleclimateconnections.org/2…

A study co-authored by @PrincetonSPIA's @ClimateQuant predicts that coastlines around the world will face extreme sea levels — exceptionally high seas due to tide, waves and storm surge — 100x more frequently by the end of the century: go.nature.com/3tI7Ce0

A certain symmetry today - on the anniversary of the devastating 1953 coastal surge - the event that inspired the need for the #ThamesBarrier - it has had to operate for the 197 time to protect London from flooding. How many in the capital are even aware? #geographyteacher
#OnThisDay in 1953, a large tidal surge made its way down the east coast, flooding around 24,000 homes. There was little warning.
Across the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK, 2551 people lost their lives.
The event ultimately led to the construction of the #ThamesBarrier.
